What's up dudes. I recently completed my hybrid swap (F23A1 block/F22A1 head) and I think I have a slight problem. I didn't put the oil control orifice from my F22 block into my F23A1 block. As most of you may know, the F23A1 is a vtec block which did not come with the oil control orifice because of the vtec head. Since I didn't plug this "hole" what problems will I have?

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.
Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

I was hoping to get that answer, but not from you. LOL. Nah I haven't pulled it yet. I was going thru every possibility of why my car is smoking and burning so much oil first. I eliminated the valve stem seals cuz they look fine plus the main symptom of bad stem seals is a puff of smoke at start up. My shit is constantly smoking. I think I have the answer tho. I just need to get that orifice and see if that will fix it. But the head has to come off in order for me to put it on, so I'm going to need to buy some new head studs. I hope that fixes the problem though. What I'm thinking is too much oil is getting into the block via that hole and is being burned in the combustion chamber and exiting out of the tailpipe.

So nobody knows? I'm sure that I'm not the only one that has done this swap. By searching I found at least 4 others that have done this. All I need to know is by not putting the orifice on will it result in oil burning and smokinig.

Quality is always better than quantity. Thanks for your response. I'm going to get the oil jet from the junk yard this weekend and install it. I hope and pray it fixes the problem so I can get it tuned. (fingers crossed)

Hit me up when this thing is running right (even untuned). I'm building a very similar motor for my 97, and am trying to figure out what kind of punch its going to have. My guess based on pretty much nothing is somewhere around 170-200hp at the crank at fairly low revs (F23 makes like 155 with a shitty head, figure intake and header and improved headflow are worth at least 10-15, and the cam is probably a 20+hp gain).Last edited by Phate; 09-23-2010, 10:22 AM.

Gonna be awesome coming from the broken F22B2 that I currently have (makes all 130-ish hp when cold, when it warms up and heatsoaks its down between 20-40hp).
My parts list (before it gets turbo):
-Stock F23A1 bottom end (rebuilt if the bearings/compression aren't great, otherwise run straight from the junkyard)
-Cleaned junkyard F22A6 head with the ports cleaned up.
-F22B2 valvecover
-Delta 272 cam
-H23 intake mani and TB
-double stacked IAB plates
-F22A4 header (yay for deleting my precat!)
-F22B2 OBD2 ECU and ignition hardware
-rpm switch to activate secondary runners
-balance shafts deleted
-no exhaust yet, but probably a 2.25-2.5 inch custom deal with a glasspack on the midpipe and a dynomax super turbo out back.
Turbo parts:
-DSM turbo manifold
-eBay 16G turbo
-wastegate actuator modified for opening at very low boost
-some form of piggyback as a temporary fuel solution
-390cc injectors (also temporary)
-probably run a FMIC, painted black to try to hide it a bit.
I realized I'm looking at an overall gain of like 150 at the crank, lol. She's gonna move, even with the automatic transmission.
