Hungry for HP: N/A F22A1 project

All right, guys. After much searching and forum diving, I've decided to work with my F22A1 until I come up with some much needed funds to gain the 300+ HP I want so bad. I've leaned toward every possible HP idea you can think of. I've tried seeking a DOHC F20A head to mount onto my F22, but can't find one locally. Even tried the H22A1 head, but I don't have the money to even consider building, let alone tuning, that kind of frankenstein. I've even leaned toward turboing the F22, but I'm low on funds for all three ideas.

So, with that said, these are the parts that I'm pulling out of a junkyard one part, mabye two at a time if my budget allows me to do so:

    F22A6 camshaft and gear
    PT6 (F22A6) ECU
    H23A1 I.M.
    H23A1 Throttle Body
    F22A4 Exhaust Manifold
    Short Ram Intake

By the way, I'm not trying to go all out and start working the block. I want to stay focused on the top end of this project, mainly stock Honda Motor Company parts. Are there any more Honda parts or modifications that can be added to gain more HP besides what I've listed above? Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks and.......PEACE OUT!

You need to go with an aftermarket camshaft period, if you wish to make power. I would consider Bisimoto. The more aggressive you get with the camshaft, the more compression you will need. Your goals are not realistic to your budget or your current set plans. You need to come back to reality. Once you do, you can deal with real numbers and real parts you will need to achieve realistic goals.

If you wish to truly make 300+ HP, then you're talking completely different plans here.

Well, there are some members that have these parts on their F22A1 engine. From what they've told me, I'd be looking at 15-30 HP. Also, I'm not looking for 300+ HP just yet. I only have a budget of around $300+ and my interest in adding these parts came from this thread: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=88154 and from 2 of these members who actually have these parts installed and the rest of the members who gave me some positive feedback:

      1. foamypirate
      2. blueCB7
      3. F20A CB7
      4. Losiracer2
      5. zigg_1311
      6. jdm92_accorn
Thanks fellas and to you HondaFan81 for the response.

Anybody else want to add anything about this F22 project, feel free to comment, until next time.....

      Peace.

OK, so you have a budget of around $300 and would like in the future to make 300HP? Well, I have many ideas, but still have to settle on something realistic. If you want an NA 300 HP motor, you're talking on the verge/if not a total race car and it will not be cheap ANY way you look at it.

IMO, you need to settle on a goal now that you realistically can achieve with some blood/sweat and is this car going to be a DD or race car or a streetable performance build? Let me know or PM me with more details on your goals. I am also very familiar with pricing on F22 parts.

i've only spent about $800 and i have 60whp over stock. you can get a catback from tas auto for $200, intake off ebay for $50, header off ebay for about $100 shipped, bisimoto stg2 cam for $250, h23 intake mani with t/b for $50 and chipped ecu for $150. and some free mods are to remove balance shaft belt and gut the cat. the only other thing i have is the adjustable cam gear and adjustable fuel pressure regulator which you dont need either. with a regrind the best cam setting is 0 and the regulator is is set at stock fuel pressure. a mild port and polish job should cost around $150-$200 and could yeild another 5-10whp and a ported t/b could be 2-5whp.over all if you spent a good $1000 you could see 170-175whp cheaper than most h22 swaps.

Add an Hseries 5spd tranny swap to this list. If your flywheel needs replacing, get a lighter one. Also, make sure your clutch grabs well, otherwise all these mods are worthless for max potential. Your tune is key for max potential power. I would say to suck it up and get some decent portwork on the head, as you can use this for a mild build with no blockwork OR use it in the future if you wish to build up the block for higher compression. You can even use it with nitrous, so it will not go to waste.

I would absolutely not dive into this project quite yet with $300. You need to do a little bit more research and figure out what exactly it is you need for what you want to do. For one, I would go ahead and buy a chippable ECU for your future build. Get any cam shaft whether it be from an a1 of a6 and send it out to be reground. Like hondafan said, Bisimoto is definitely the way to go in that sense. Also, I would probably buy an ebay cold air and invest in a great filter and while your at it, send your h23 tb and plenum out to maxbore.

your goal really is not realistic, but I feel that after you install some of the said parts and tune your car, you will be happy with the power gains. Until you have money to really tear the motor down, I would focus on everyday upkeep of your vehicle to make her reliable for the power. No sense dumping money to build a motor in a shell that sucks.

good luck homie, you should have fun with this build.

I can help give you a jump start on the project. I live in atlanta and have bunch of parts I need to get rid of, at great prices. I've got some traction bars, h23 transmission, flywheel, f22a4 or 6 exhaust mani, maybe an a6 cam, h23 intake manifold and ported throttle body (I may have a clutch masters clutch thats still good to).

PM me and I'll come up with some prices, I guarantee I'll give you the best deal you will ever find, if your ready to buy this stuff soon.

Almost anyone on here will vouch for me to, I'm honest and like helping others out (Not to mention my garage is overflowing with shit)

Take this deal!! Heck, just the H23 tranny alone will increase your acceleration. Wow, this can be great for you.

                      Thanks for the vouch amigo.

Jdm92 is the perfect dude to follow for a f22a N/A build, he has the bisi cam. Woot woot.

His build is what I want! Along with a shorter geard trans, his power is great for a sohc motor.

id save the 300 and wait till i have more cash available. Get an h22 which since the prices have gone down. and you will be making more power and it would be more reliable. And if the h22 is still too much I'd get a h23 non vtec. Big improvement specially in acceleration and i didn't have to bother ripping a motor with a lot of miles apart and putting a it back together for a couple hp.
