Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

I hope that all didn't take my replies wrong. I am not a dummy when it comes to cars. I have an extensive backround with them nad more then jsut my car. I have had, in the past, a 91 satun, 92 talon tsi (I wonde hw I blew that up...) and a backround wit sccaracing. I work atan autoshop as a technician and mechanic. Some things I don't know..like fuel maps. I dunno wut they are, how to create one, or anything. I was going wit the "hack" safc setup, but I dunno how to set it up, or what to set it up at. I was trying to enlist the help of perhaps those who have this setup. While each car is different, each car's surroundings are different (weather, climate, atmospheric pressure, level above ea level..etc.) I needed a BASE to start from. I wanted to know each code, and what caused you to set it at that point. I was onna tune my car at elite, but I had to find a way to get it there..that's by the turbo..already installed. So, someone, please help me.

if you have a 5-speed then check out my ecu chipping thread. Its stickied and i have a VERY strong basemap for any f22 turbos...just need to tweak a couple of points (not really anything in the boost columns). Read through the entire thread, all the links and then come back to me.

I wouldnt even bother driving it to the shop if your gonna get it tuned at the shop. Id have it flat bedded there rather than drive on it. I dont like tweakin major stuff like that here and there you put that badboy on a laptop and then the dynomachine. But I hope your judgement is the best someone help this guy out let us all know how it went good or bad

If a map is set rich enough throughout the powerband it would be safe... It'll be a fuel hog, and certainly won't be all that efficient, but it'll get you to a shop to tune. Properly tuning a turbo engine can take a VERY long time!

To learn stuff about fuel maps and ECU programming, check out www.pgmfi.org . I'm still in the process of reading much of the introductory stuff on that site myself. It's a great resource, and there are a few pieces of software you can check out as well.

Of course, www.homemadeturbo.com is great too. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread yet. Antione, I know you're on there

ugh...guys. Although every engine is different he will not be running stupid rich or stupid lean with my map. At most anyone dsm setups using my map will be at a 10.5 a/f under wot conditions at times. Cruising and idle are friggin' great and thats where the maps of the engines WON'T differ alot. I'm really the only person thats widebanded these maps and i know most all the little ends and outs of the maps. Changing a couple of points doesn't throw off the entire engine. Trust me, throw in my map and come back with the great results that i have. And yes u will be able to drive it to the dyno. I've been driving mine around for about what 3 weeks now? You guys want another compression test so i can prove that one f22 doesn't differ much from another?

Well besides that did you ever really throw in the fact that as far as differentiation so to speak what about its before and after conditiont of who had the engine before you. They dont differ but you say that one day and you can run it but it will be a little off, over or under.

But one may like certain characteristics more than the other. One may like more fuel one may like more air, the other may want a little less fuel which will net you a course from 10-15 more than what the other engine may have wanted. The name of the game is to get as much as you can out of your engine or else its just guessing games and thats not good.

                      Comment

thats why its called a basemap. Engine output depends on conditions and atmosphere we all know that. Its not going to all of a sudden run like shit on day cause its hot or cold. I even made the map for such conditions! I've got an 11.9 a/f at wot most of the time. So on a cold day the most amount of change u'd see would be like .3 of an a/f. I've datalogged in the rain, the heat, and early morning cold...guess what. They don't differ by much of anything. No one said they were gonna put in my basemap and expect it to be a perfect tune for their specific setup. They put in the basemap to tune from. The problem that i had was that i did not have a basemap to tune from, i had to create a basemap from scratch and tune from there. It would have helped me immensely to have a basemap to start from. I did all this to help others not go through the downtime that i did. When they put my map in the car will have great daily driveability. I even made sure to datalog with all stock settings on my cam gear and ignition. I know how these engines run and what they like and don't like. Just because they are not getting as much out of their engine right from the bat means nothing. They will still have more...way more than enough power to get around town. The only ppl that can really even challenge my knowledge about these maps are zigenballs and bustedlx. No one else has really ever spoken out about it or even has it running on their car. Until more do, i think the wisest choice is to listen to me.

hey midnite, can you post a link to that thread of yours? Also, what can I do to make my a/f gauge more accurate? Where can I geta wideband o2 sensor for it, and how can I hook it up?

                          -A. Swift

P.S. This seems like a dumb question, but is it ok to install the walbro fuel pump and dsm 450 cc blue tops, and run the car like that? Or, should I do that with the safc installed? I am gonna do teh pump and injectors at work, nd then work on the turbo and intercooler setup..

I think you should do that with it installed with the safc imo. Besides midnite for the starters tell us all how you did the basemap and everything from all thepoints here and there to full throttle at which rpms step by step. Lets get down to the basics for us that dont know.

I never said your basemap was bad Antoine, just that running rich would get you to a dyno. A good basemap like you have will get a car running decently until it can be tuned... which is your point

I haven't checked out your tuning thread yet, though I plan to. I'm really interested in seeing what you have done! I need to learn about this stuff really soon. I have a PM6 ECU coming from Chazzworth that I want to chip.

There is a conversion for ur a/f gauge that my zeitronix wideband has. Its just hooking up one wire. You'll need more than just the sensor. You'll need the kit. Got mine for $288 shipped. Similiar wideband units are made by PLX Innovative and AEM among many others. Search please. The wire harness hooks up almost exactly like the safc. Power, ground, rpm signal, and throttle signal...very easy. I have a DIY in the DIY section on how to hook up the SAFC.

Don't run dsm injectors without something controlling them. Can u run them...yes...but you'll foul atleast one set of plugs everyday. And dear god gas mileage lol.
