    Evo 3 16g turbo upgrade!

I am planning to upgrade to the evo 3 16g turbo from my current 14b turbo, as it is direct bolt on and needs only tuning to compensate!

Mitsubishi evo 3 16g turbo? VS evo 3 16g "GT" turbo from ebay?
    $525 VS $350 with jpipe!
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/EVO-3-16G-Ported-...ayphotohosting
    VS

Please give me your thoughts, my 14b's seals are pooched and I think the turbo is well in need of retirement!

EDIT**** pics of my new to me toy on page 3!!!

Just be careful there are many copies about going around with turboes. Just make sure that your supplier is legit and not a xspower and ssauto supplier. Good luck though and congrats on your future upgrade btw how much power are you pushing for?

I wouldn't go with the eBay version of the GT. Check out turbochargers.com for either the regular 16g or the 16g GT turbo. I got mine from there and so far it's be great!

Well not nesecarilly power! Do want to go into low 14's or better and also way more reliability than my junkyard semi rebuilt 14b lol! two turbos made 1! lol! total cost was 120 for both lol!
I know that ssauto sells them but they dont make them, and I was just asking to see reliability and consistency of them, as compared to the MHI turbos, see everyone is biased without facts or proof ya know what I mean! I am not too concerned with power more, but i dunno 230ish Hp?
PS only got to 15.59 1/4mile time with 14b at 8psi on falken azenis rt615's up front! 20psi in tires the sidewall didnt even move much!

Also NE one know where to get cheap eprom chips, pref like 5 or so! Ive got one with basemap and another with decent 14b tune but need extras for types of tunes!
Thanks h22sparkle for your quick response!

Unless the Turbochargers version can be found for a lot cheaper than the MHI one, i'd stick with the MHI tried and true quality. They make some of the best turbos around.
I had the GT version at my house, and it did indeed look like a quality unit, but i opted for a slightly used Small 16g instead. Also, i did a little research, and at the lower boost levels, the S16g is the most efficient and best suited turbo for our engines.
With any decent FMIC though, the small efficiency different won't mean that much, but if i were you, i'd look for a good deal on a Small 16g on the DSM boards or whereever... I got mine for $300 shipped with like 5000miles on it.

I got my MHI from turbochargers.com, and I agree they are the best, most reliable choices to go with.

Honestly westsideaccord I understand your side of thinking. But honestly i made 230.14whp and 214wtq on my 14b turbo and that shit pulled hard. It should be no problem why you shouldnt be able to make that kinda power with a decent autosquare intercooler witht he all out mods like a 3inch downpipe custom and btw i made this power on 2.25 intercooler piping at 8psi with a good chrome tune this should put you in the low,low 14's with no problem. I could imagine if i turned up the boost. On that note heh if you got more to throw in perhaps you should get your tranny rebuilt and an lsd thrown in with a good clutch from gearspeedinc. My boy is doin big things out there and some good ass quality work that I can personally credit for.

8psi and the f22motor was fucked when i first bought the car smoked a lil then stopped on certain times and i still beat on it to quicken its death. I noticed the white smoke which meant 1 of the ringlands was on its way out like i had on the h22 boosted stock before i had to get that built the h22 had a hint of rodknock in the morning.

I agree 100%..the small 16g is alot better for the boost were running on our stock motors..

                          And look around..i got my s16g for 200$ with 0 miles on it..fully rebuilt..obviously i got a hell of a deal.

Why Im sure he means dsmtuners.com

                            I have a jrc 6" front mount, 2"-2.5 to ic then 2.5-tb!
The thing is my car is lowered and doesnt like 3" piping for exhaust, 2.5 would be sufficient for now! And my goals may change at the time I reach the ones Ive already set! My f22a1 is rebuilt to stock new seals and rings etc.! Seems strong!
I am not worried about boosting early that is actually a problem for me due to it being a Daily Driver! For now!
How did you make 30 or more HP than accordr33 with 8 psi on an 14b? You got a secret?
I have a spare 5spd tranny and am running a centreforce clutch! So! Last time I was at the track my tranny was in bad shape, it had a LSD but only cause the diff and spider gears werent right, a week l8r it exploded!
Also remember that I am in Canada, and basically anything I want I have to get shipped to me! From down there!

The main reason why I had 30 more hp than r33 no offense but i had a better tuner honestly this guy who I know tunes way better than any other tuner that ive known in NY period. Hes not some cocky bling, bling balling name everyone else has heard reppin the streets. Not only that its because I have a 3inch downpipe im not sure if r33 was runnin that too. And i was also rockin the 2.25 intercooler piping heatwrapped aswell cooler air temps slightly more power. But what can I sayas far as a secret there is no secret, its all in the tuning. The tuner who I have deals with rx7's. As far as boosting a daily driver well put it this way thats why i opted for 2 cars just incase 1 goes i still have the other.
