From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

    Who has an EGT Gauge?

Ive been thinking about getting an EGT gauge for my car, i hear that its good to know that temp so i can keep from trashing my internals. anyways i was just wondering if anyone has them what brand they like and how do you read it the autometer im looking at has numbers 0 thro 16 i figure 16 being hottest but what would you want the gauge to read?

I may be wrong, but those numbers might be X10 (ie 14=140 degrees). I'm not exactly sure what woud be the ideal EGT. It may depend on what mods you have (mild to heavy), then again you may want your EGT to remain at a certain temperature range regardless of if your blown or just running I/H/E. I'll throw out a number and say ideal EGT might be 125-135 degrees.
    Good Luck!

        hey he tried

ideal is about 750-850 degrees Celsius...thats for WOT tho Partial throttle and idle area is usually in the 600- low 700's

That 0-1600 gauge is in farenheit most likely.

If anybody asks how to convert celsius to farenheit i'm gettin out the baby powder.

cool so from 1382 to 1562 F which on that gauge we are guessing would be anywhere between 13 and 16 then right???

And while i have mrx attention and we are talking about temp in the engine what is the perfect intake temp? and at what temp does detonation happen?
Is there a gauge out there that reads intake temps?

ur chipped p06.. can read Intake air temp... if u have the 4 pin header installed... antoine will know if he installed it on urs.. just like datalogging with the zeitronix.. (if u have it).. its the same way......

maybe below 100 for intake temps, something sane. Mine was low 90's in boost. And yea u should have the 4 pin header. Look for the hulog on moates.net and then use ecucontrol.com's program to datalog

i have an egt, and i am around 650-700 c when i am in boost, but this is because i am running rich...they are def something handy to have, i have a blitz unit that i am very impressed with...

for intake air temps, i was getting like mid 80's when i was beating on it the other day

great! both ? answered i love it! you say you like the blitz is it just for reading egt? or does it do more? how much if you dont mind me asking and where did you get it? I really think im gonna go with the autometer one so all my gauges match. (so girl of me things HAVE to match)

Ill see if this ? can be answered in here too. i dont have a fuel pressure regulator, its on the list. but i am looking at the difference between the little shitty one that goes on the actual fuel rail, i guess its a manual one vs. the eletric one that you tap into your fuel pump? is that right? i dont remember i saw it on a teggy and thought it was cool. I like the idea the actual guage is inside the car with you so you can actually watch it. what do you guys think the manual one or the eletric one.

egt's raise when rich and lower when too lean. If ur a/f's are decent then you've got too much timing. Advanced timing means cooler egt's and retarded means high egts.

you got it backwards there toine ...the leaner a car runs, the hotter it runs (hence when you are running too lean, you melt parts) = hotter egt temps... the richer it runs, the cooler it runs.

midnightrayne, i got it from ebay with the sender and shit. think i paid around 200 for it~ it isnt digital, so egt is all it shows

                            http://www.foxvalleykart.com/egt.html - 3rd and 4th paragraphs from the last

http://www.bankspower.com/Tech_whyegt.cfm - "The richer the air/fuel ratio in a diesel, the higher the EGT will be."

http://hondatuningmagazine.com/tech/0510ht_fueleconomy/ - "Decreasing ignition timing results in lower combustion gas temperature but also raises exhaust gas temperature. On the other hand, increasing ignition timing lowers exhaust gas temperature, but eventually gets into the realm of pinging. "

See, I'm not crazy I thought it was absolutely retarded too the first time i ran across the info. But sure enough after tuning 1 or 2 cars with EGT gauges the theories held true. Think about it like this, if ur running very rich then the cylinder head temperature (CHT) will be low because the fuel was never fully burned, but that unburned fuel is still being burned and raising in temperature as it enters the exhaust stream.

wow i thought you were wrong as well. from my days of running nitro cars, it would be that the leaner you went-the hotter the engine got making more power, thats why its dangerous to run too lean. hmm learn something new each day.
