Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

    oil drain questions

well i noticed that my dsm turbo smokes a little and has some start up blow by..i have a 3/8th inch fitting tapped to my oil pan but the turbo itself has a 1/2in drain is this is whats causing my blow buy.is the 3/8 fitting acting like a bottle neck which is causing oil to back up some in the turbo?

I doubt the 3/8th inch fitting is the problem. 3/8th inch should be sufficient for turbo drain.

If you think there is a problem with your turbo drain, this is what I would look for:
    1. is your drain fitting in the right location on your oil pan? (it should be as high as possible)
    2. your drain line should be pointing DOWN. it can never go down and then back up... as it is gravity fed.

Your problem is more than likely worn out turbo seals and your turbo probably needs careful inspection and a rebuild/rebalance.

it never did this befor tho when it was on the eclipse when i bought it..the drain is at the rim of my pan as far up as it can go and the drain line is straight down from the turbo to the pan.

i believe that if your turbo is smoking, then your seals are toast

maybe somebody more knowledgeable can chime in.

little tiny tiny bit spins freely with my fingers.... there's no oil in the charge tubes so its only smoking on hot side like its backing up.

I would say its normal cause of this cold weather. Is it actually burning oil?

Why not? I've been running one over a year. It does the job on low boost.
