Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.


The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.


For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.


Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

    Cutting on your intercooler piping

    What i did is just ordered a descent piping kit, you know what i mean. basically universal. Well you know how they give you two of everything, right angle aluminum, 180 horseshoe ,45 degree elbows, straight and so forth. Question is, im going to have to cut a few of them to fit. now if i do this, is the silicone couplers going to stay on the end i cut very good because each end of the aluminum has a bevel ridge like something to help the hose from coming off and sealing it better. So when i cut it, its just going to go on a smooth piece of aluminum with no beveled edege.If you have seen these, throw me some opinions on what u think, meaning without the lip on the ends, will they sta on during boost......Thanks

    The T clamps i got are really nice and durable and seem like it would seal it up good, but those beveled edges are there for some purpose. i need to start on it early tom, thanks.....

      Its not ideal..... Mine are like that ... Just cut no flare at the end and they didn't pop off.

        It won't be a problem unless you are running a ridiculous amount of boost. Jut make sure your T-clamps are TIGHT.

            I may just try to hook the piping without beveling the edge, i cant harly see how that tool would do that, lol, but i guess it does. I have heard alot of people telling me that they cut theres with no beveled edge and have never popped off. 8 to 10 psi is the most im going to run, anymore input please, thanks

              Well, I would do it but thats just me. Ive heard of plenty of people getting away with it, and more often then not, people having an issue.

              If you make that tool(funny how I pm'd something about that to you), you only need to make a few divets. 3-4 around the pipe so the coupler has something to stop it from slipping back off. That picture shows an end made with a bead roller, not a home made jobby. Lol. I doubt anyone squeezed together some vice grips and made anything like that, lolololol. Id find a different DIY tool thread, and check it out. Basically, you make a divet in the pipe with the tool. Just a divet, nothing like that picture showed. Then you tighten the coupler down, behind the divet so it cannot slip off.

              T-bolts are the way to go, you might not need to make any divets at all. Maybe just keep it as a back up plan. This may sound funny, but this kid that lives around here taught me that hair spray on your charge pipes will help the coupler stick in place. Believe it or not, it works. Just let it dry before you start the car, and get the coupler on while its wet.


              As far as if you need it or not PSI isnt going to be the factor. How much air are you going to be moving?

              CFM?

              @ 8-10psi how much CFM is your turbo making?


              PSI does matter when considering your charge pipes blowing off, but at 8psi it can happen with a medium-large turbo just as easy.

                i was going to mention the hairspray trick but toycar already beat me to it

                the hairspray trick is what i used to do with the grips on my bicycles when i was younger.

                put coupler on when wet and when the spray dries it holds extremely well

                  I have blown the hoses off at 10psi, and they were put on real tight,and they always get blown off at the worse place and time, now I have every thing welded up, after you fab it up just use a marker to secure the spots take it to a welder, the less hose you have the better, and he can run beads around the ends to secure the hose.

                    Not only just making 3 beads on the welder on the pipe get better t-bolt clamps they help out alot too.
