    DrummerSteve7 : H23 Boost Build

So here it is, my H23 Boosted Thread!
The black car is going in the workstation for a Boosted H23 on Jan 16th 2009!
The block and head will remain stock.

I started researching this setup when I boosted my 1992 Rosewood DSM Styles.
So here are my plans and if you got any comments I would like to know.
Love the help from the experienced boost junkies!

My goal: 250hp by Mar 22 Springfield, Virginia Meet
Decided on using my big ported DSM 16G!

The car this engine will be applied:

    The engine arriving:

    The H23a3:

The valve cover I have had sitting for a year!

And where it will all go down! Make it Happ’n Capp’n!!!

    What is left:
    To Do:
Install 2.5" Charge Piping . BOV
    Install Oil Catch Can
    Install 2.5" Exhaust

    Electronics for Install:
    Alarm
    Relocate Battery
    Radar Detector
    Gauges
    P06 ECU

    Appearance:
Buy Rear Bumper and have Rear Lip Molded
Paint Rear Bumper . Rear Lip . 6th Gen Side Skirts

    After Turbo Install:[/B]
ESP Traction Bar and Strut Bars
    True Coilovers
    Big Brake Kit

I'm getting excited, this has been extremely fun so far.
I could really use comments on the alcohol and water injection as I really like the idea but wonder other thoughts.

So lemme know if you got any ideas. Fun times had by all…

    STAY TUNED…

not gonna lie, those are GIANTTTTT snails your thinking of, ESPECIALLY on a stock H23!!

but if you're really stuck on the 35/40's, the log mani is outta the question. they are the cheapest, but they also flow the worst. since it sounds like your going for some decent power, ram horns generally flow much better than log's, helping with spool time.

yaa that turbo needed to be researched some more.

I basically put a huge turbo up their to make joser happier. j/k

but anyways I did a lil more research and did all the numbers to find out how the engine flows and figure all my turbo info out.

      now I am looking at:
      Garrett Dual Ball Bearing: GT2871R
      Turbine -Wheel: 53.85mm w/ 76 trim -Housing: .86 or .64 ar -Maps
      Compressor -Wheel: 71mm w/ 56 trim -Housing: .60 ar

I like this one a lot better after doing some research!

that sounds muchhh better. have you looked at the compressor maps and plotted the engines volumetric efficiency on it??

          questions!

VE is where my questions are.

Basically I did the math like this:

          Transfered cc into ci : 2257x .06102 = 137.8 ci
Then I took that and multiplied by high rpm:
          2257x6500= 895700 then divide by 3456

          I got 250 CFM.
But with a Volume efficeincy of 85%
I was looking at 220 CFM. Does that seem right?

That turbo is based off 580 CFM at 22 psi.
I plan on running about 10-12psi!

I have done the research, but honestly reading helps but normally I can not understand fully till it is broken down to me!

im currently running log style manifold and 2 other people i know with very similar setups make well over 100whp difference!!! the major difference in setup is manifold im switching this week to mini ram im currently making 360whp ill let you know what the diffrence is later

i'm not sure if you're agreeing or arguing with me (pretty sure you're agreeing with me, but i'm 3 straight games of 21cup in, atm, so i can't be too sure) but i'm also making +100whp difference with my log setup as well. stock F22 w/ t3super60 @ 10psi, 250hp/275ft-lb.

but a different manifold will make a dramatic difference, especially when you start going for higher numbers, which is what the OP's setup sounds like it's built for (minus the stock block)

i think im agreeing with you also the log style manifold flows like shit if you look how it flows #2#3 flow great but #1#4 are longer and the turbo sits directly on 2 and 3 so 1 and 4 dont really get factored in

You don't need a 44mm wastegate. A 38mm will do you just fine.

A gt28? Care to explain why you chose this turbo? Honestly, I'd look into some Holset turbo's, hx40 and h1c come to mind. Don't waste your money on a turbo you can't rebuild if anything were to happen. A regular journal bearing is fine.

Holset turbo's: I can't find anything with any specs on em.
so what you think about this turbo:

I think it will work perfectly. Now keep in mind,
next winter I am going to do a total build on a h23 or f20 with h23 head.
So I am going to use this when I upgrade my engine.

                            Garrett T3/TO4E 50 trim
                            -Turbocharger - Garrett T3/T4E, 50trim compressor
-Quick Spooling Stage II wheel with T3
                            -4 Bolt (2.5") discharge 63AR or -5 bolt Ford style .48 A/R

because they're cheap, they're big, easy to come by, and rebuildable.

Get a journal bearing garrett turbo then. Don't waste your money on a stupid ball bearing turbo.
