Chipped ECU or G-Force Chip Kit?

1) On some highways here the speed limits are 120km thus triple digit speeds
2) On top of that I never said anything about racing on public roads so don't just assume I'm some kid that wants to drift a fwd car around parking lots and into walls and pedestrians.
3) We have multiple speedways and drag tracks open to public on certain days here.
4) Some people have cars that can both perform slightly on tracks and work as their every-day cars; not everybody buys one car for the tracks, one for the road, one for camping, one for winter, and one for the weekends.

If you want to learn how to tune your own car I say go for it. Get yourself a chipped ECU, laptop, wideband O2, dataloging cable, software & RTP hardware. eCtune Demon or Neptune Demon would be my sugestion for software and RTP hardware. I have a couple chipped ECUs on my shelf if your looking.

I chipped my own ECU and learned how to street tune on my Accord. F22B2 with I/H/E and 255cc injectors. I bought a few EFI tuning books and read a lot of info online about getting started.(PGM-FI.org, Moates.net & forums like this one) Now I'm tuning and helping guys run 11 second DD Civics. If I had the money I would buy a dyno, there aren't many around here.

120 kmh doesn't even require changing the ECU. Besides, if you're gonna go changing units on us, you can go with a 6 digit speed if you measure it in feet per hour. If you plan on getting a chipped ECU for power right now, you're gonna be very disappointed. If you go ahead and get a chipped ECU to learn how to use it later when you get real mods, it might be worthwile for the learning experience.

And if all you're concerned about is drifting your car, then this isn't even the right section of the forum to be in. Get some lowering springs, some good struts, good sway bars, and some strut bars and go nuts with drifting.

I missed that you're in Canada... I was referring to triple digits in MPH... In the US, 99% of the roads have a posted speed limit of no more than 65mph. The speed limiter cuts in at DOUBLE that. 120kph is 75mph... which is what the other 1% of US highways go up to. Your speed limiter should allow you to get to about 200kph, correct?

My car is making about 220hp. I don't come anywhere near 100mph on a quarter mile drag strip. Nowhere near the limiter. There's no need to remove it until you have a TON of work done to your car... in which case, you'll be running custom fuel management anyway.

Yes, tuning a car for weekend track use and everyday driving performance is fine... We encourage that here... just do so responsibly.


And I'm sorry... most people that ask about those worthless chips ARE naive kids that drift around parking lots. We have far too many kids like that... they have a $500 car, and they want to make a rocket out of it for next to nothing. They're also the ones that post stories, videos, or pictures of irresponsible driving.

lol well sorry for coming across as that type of person, honestly I'm just learning about cars. I was just thinking maybe I could save a few dollars with that chip because of how much I've already spent and am going to spend. I've got years to go before I will actually be good with cars, but I'm not looking to drive irresponsibly on the streets and lose my license or hurt others.

Also, I completely said the wrong thing too (lol) I meant rev limiter, because I hear h22a engines can hold power whilst still being stable at higher rpm's than the given stock ones. I'll look into it more when I've actually got a worthwhile basemap to load onto an ECU.

I've got the suspension n whatnot but I'm not looking to drift (otherwise I would have bought a rwd instead of blowing $7k on this car). I said I'm not some kid looking to drift, not "I want to drift my car around in circles like fast and furious coz thats wots all the popular kids do after school after drinking a mickey of alcohol and smoking ounces of weed. How bout some massive spoilers and carbon fiber fender flares, and some cool fire vinyl design on my automatic dodge neon."

All I want from my car:
-To learn
-Have a fairly nice car to drive around
-Fun at the tracks with a few friends
-Safety

Ok, yeah, rev limiter makes more sense. Of course, you'll be running the H22 ECU for the H22... which will have an appropriate rev limit set. Until you do enough work for an engine to make power over the stock rev limit, there's no need to go beyond it. Most engines will not continue to make power, and unless the entire engine is built to take the additional stress, it won't last long!

Once you cross the factory redline, you might start floating the valves (unless someone went through and replaced the springs already, if you've got a 15 year old engine the stock ones might already have lost some of their high RPM performance) at which point you'll lose almost all your power, and risk not being able to actually push exhaust gas out into the header, resulting in overheating of the head and burning of valves. If you're lucky and the springs don't float, your cam still won't pull enough air to make power over the redline anyway, so it's still a waste of your time and will wear out your engine.

True, but most people aren't stupid enough to think they can safely drive at 200 kmh, partially because it's highly illegal and may get them killed or ticketed, and it takes a while to get there anyway . If someone has a lightweight flywheel it'll only take them about a second to bounce off their rev limiter, or massively overrev if they've removed the limiter. What does the factory speed limiter keep us at anyway? I suppose it's a bit different for an H22, but I'm quite sure that my speed limiter will let me go past my brother's cavalier, and it takes either one of the cars quite a while to get anywhere near it anyway

I've heard reports of 118mph, and 130mph (which is where I got that 200kph... that's 130mph). Neither of which should ever be reached on public roads, or even on a track in a car that's so old!

I have an H22. I have my rev limiter set at 7600. One day, I revved it to redline in 3rd, and shifted... to 2nd. I meant to go to 4th, and missed. A number of the staff members here have done that as well. I was the only lucky one that did no damage! It blew right past the limiter, and maxed out the tach. I wouldn't be surprised if it went nearly to 10,000.

Ah the missed shift. That's where a rev limiter wouldn't help anyway. A rev limiter doesn't stop your engine from spinning 10,000 revolutions per minute. It cuts fuel and spark to the engine so it won't sustain RPMs over the set value. I've heard of more than a few valves kissing pistons that way.

That's true! haha I've done it once on the highway when some cocky prick cut me off in his lifted truck (he must be cool, right?) and when I went to pass him I missed gear :/. Guess that should have taught me to not let anger control my emotions.

Easy, my car club has some Neons in it... One is actually a Street Stock dirt track racer. It has fender flairs, helps with mud flying everywhere.
