Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

I read what moates had to say about the Ostrich 2.0 (couldn't find the 1.0 on their site?) and it's not really clear what it is. It says it does pseudo-datalogging. I'm just confused as to why it's needed, why not just a chip burner?

Edit: Oh, it allows you to change the tuning in real time before actually burning your eprom? It sounds like all it does is saves a little bit of time?

      Correct, Its a chip emulator
Simply put, it replaces the "chip" in the ECU socket and allows you to change the tune in real time.
Then you can save that tune and burn it to a chip.

Okay, so it's not a necessity, just really helpful for doing things in a timely manner.

          Crome Free

An emulator is not required for crome, however the only time I would say it is not extremely helpfull, is with crome free.

And, Neptune and Ectune REQUIRE an emulator.

          Just so you know...

I could not imagine tuning without one, It would suck; however it is possible.

              Crome Free

              I learned on crome free.

And am now upgrading to Neptune. I believe that it is worth the experience on the free system.

It is difficult for me to tell you what to do.

Before you make your decision you should know that an emulator is only $75 more then the burn2 chip burner. So if you are not planning on tuning more then one car, I would still recommend just getting the emulator.

If you are going to do more then one car, then the chip burner is the way to go (assuming you only get one or the other), but it is a pain, and even more difficult to learn.

If you are planning on upgrading from crome to either neptune or ectune within a fairly short period of time, I would HIGHLY recommend that you save up money for the demon board.

Thankfully HRTuning will buy your old emulator / datalogger if you are upgrading to neptune, but I still lost like $70 because I didn't go straight to the demon.

It is too bad I didn't know you were doing this earlier, or I would have sold you my ostrich and hulog, with cables for $150. Instead I sold them back to moats / HRTuning for that price

Either way you go, don't be shy to ask questions. I am still learning too.

Looking like an idiot on the internet when you start tuning is a lot better then blowing up your engine!

              Regards, and good luck!

                  Aem Fic

I believe the FIC would benefit the non honda people more then those of us here.

There is nothing that unit can do, that crome free can't do.

If you go a step further and go with ectune, or neptune then the list of features is HUGE for the same price as the FIC.

All the FIC allows is for you to adjust ignition and fuel tables.

Crome free offers idle contorl, iat correction, ect corection, individual cylander trim, tip in, gear adjustment, v-tec engagement point, and a ton of other features.

The others just add features from there.
