From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

    H22 Crankshaft

Ok With all the problems i have had lately with my H22 and bad cranks(see my members ride for details) and with the most recent one I got from through my brothers shop being a reground and it wasnt done right I've decided that I pretty much have to go the route of getting a brand new crankshaft because anything I find out there is junk. I want to see if you guys know of any good aftermarket ones or alternatives(f22 crank???, etc) that will actually hold up and be reliable. My brothers company is paying for all the damages and labor so I'm not too worried about price considering a brand new H22 crank is over $700.

    Details on my Engine set-up
    -JDM TYPE-S RODS/PISTONS
    -ARP HEAD STUDS
    -SKUNK2 PRO2+ CAMS
    -SKUNK2 VALVES/RETAINERS,ETC

I'm still keeping it all motor, and possibly considering some higher compression pistons, but I need to figure out which crank I'm gonna use first

To be honest you can use just about any f or h series crank but wether or not you want to change your rods again is up to you. But i think the only crank that remains the same size is the h22a, a1, a4.

ive heard that most honda cranks dont respond very well when they are "turned" at a machine shop. i wouldnt run one that has been turned more than once...

Just get a replacement from any junked h22. If you get anything other than an h22 crank, you will have to change your rods and pistons.

If you get another crank, be sure to get the bearing cams from them as well, and have your block true honed to fit the crank.

yea I should've had the last crank checked out but coming from a local trusted shop I didnt think it was neccasary. I'm honestly really skeptical of a used crank out of a junk, or even good H22 just because of my past experience, and the fact that i cant seem to find a decent used one thats not all out of whack.

I am going to need to change my rods anyways because one of them got ruined by the last crank, so I'm just going to change them all because I dont want have one odd ball rod in there.

the dealer is your only option for a stock stroke crank.
I have found that if you have a problem with a crank you bought there is one of two problems, either a faulty install, or the crank was not properly inspected before hand.

At my dealership we sell new toyotas, mitsubishis, and volkswagens, but at my other store I have honda, mazda, buick, and cadilac so Ican get oem honda parts for pretty decent prices so thats not a big issue, and The install was done properly, my freind and I did it, with me having done this several times, and him several hundred(hes a master tech) so that wasnt the issue, the issue was the crank was improperly ground, but anyways I'm now looking at just buying another H22 for now, and building this motor later

However, part of the installation procedure is to check your bearing clearances and take a micrometer to measure your bearing journals, bores, etc. to make sure of proper fitment. A bad crank would have been spotted at the point more than likely, wouldn't you think?

Installation procedure of throwing in standard size bearings, plug & play to later find out an issue after engine already assembled and ran....anyone can do that.

After personally measuring engine journals, bores, etc on a Honda, you will realize how precise all components are and when you're dealing with such small clearances/measurements, everything has to work well together, you can't just guess or plug & play unless you already know (which means measuring & inspecting) that each component you are using is to factory spec.

^^^ yea I wish we would have dont that. lol The shop that I got the crank from told me they did it, cuz they had my block to clean and prep it, and order the right bearings, etc.. but obviously they didnt measure anything.
Oh well for now Imma just start collecting parts for this motor, and I just ordered another H22 in the meantime
