Engine bearings, yay!!!!

Thing is I dont have as easy access to tools as such because of where I live. If I order something I have to pay taxes, higher shipping rates, and duty. And alot of companies love ups which is in my opinion the worst due to theyre duty/taxes mark up, like $100 compared to usps/canada post! And with my first born coming in february, my priorities are gonna change a bit, but I dont wanna stray from the cb7Turbo. I just want to have the engine together, before, so I dont have to worry about it throwing any curveballs at me, well big ones lol! Wed3k: it would be appreciated if you could dig that up, if not I may figure something out! Thanks!
Oh and we will be using plastigauge during to ensure its in spec!

when using that mic...use the tips...don't put what you measure that deep into the "arms" that's why the tip looks different.

also...since you asked about that I'm not going to assume...don't clamp it down...it's a feel sorta thing.

But that mic prolly isn't the best for this application...I dunno though...someone with more exp. have a response as to that?

Now as to where you measure on the bearing...top, middle...etc...I don't know...someone else please?

as for measuring the bearing, id most likely measure the middle but the entire bearing thickness should be the same....cant have no oval shaped main bore housings.

you were asking where to measure on the mic...you have pics of the bearing on the tip, in the middle...and WAY back on the mic...that's what I was talking about. sorry for the confusion.

as to the proper mic..that one will prolly work but I haven't replaced any bearings so I'm not gonna say yah or nay...I'd rather someone with exp give you an answer

When did the rod/mains on my H22, I just put in the colors that it called for and then plastigauged it. Everything came out within tolerances, so i just put it back together. I'm not doing anything fancy/extreme, so that worked for me. My motor is running fine so far.

For the guys with experience;

Where on the bearings do you make your measurements from?

I get different measurements from all these spots. My question is, which way is correct?

In the middle, with the tip of the caliper?


In the middle, only the bearing is flush with the end of the caliper?


or, still the middle, but the bearing is deeper in the caliper?


Also, do I do it from the middle of the bearing?


or the edge of the bearing?

the first picture is the closest to being correct. you really need to measure the bearing with just the tip of the caliper, because the larger flat spots like what are around the bearing in the 3rd picture cause it to measure thicker than the bearing really is.

correct ive been studying this subject in school all of the measuring and stuff and u can meausre anywhere and as many times as u want in any direction on the bores as long as they are within toleraces they are good

bump cause i needed to look at my own shit.

i have 5 tenths clearance in the rear so ill probably have to opt for some pink's to bump me to 1 thou clearance.
