Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

My EX has some grind going into 2nd from a 1st gear redline... so as long as i shift under 5.5k in 1st its as smooth as butter.

*also, i did notice the DIY short shifter, the shorter you make it... the rougher the engage gets

EDIT: if you rest your hand on the shifter it can put pressure on the dog teeth or "syncros" which are what keeps you from having to rev match every shift.

A short shifter will make this much more noticable, if you lightly rest your hand on a shifter you can feel the engine through the knob, try applying a small amount of pressure and you will feel a grind in the knob. that grind is bad

Pretty damn good with the exception of two cracked motor mounts. Front and rear. I just have to find time to install them.

I just got off the fone with Hmotors. I'm getting H22 w/ LSD tranny. Whoooohoooo.

Mine shifts a lil rough sometimes...ive changed my fluid twice now....

If you get on it but then have to suddenly brake she likes to shift rough....if you sunday drive her she is excellent.

Maybe some GM syncromesh is in order.

if u have a 5 spd and it grinds ur syncros are bad, if u rev high before u relese the clutch the best way to keep ur gears from grinding is to replace ur syncros with carbon fiber syncros. the can take the "extra" abuse from clutch dropping and race like shifting. for the autos, honda has a special additive in their auto fluid, u can buy the additive but i dont know where, its just easier and better to get the honda ZTF-1 fluid. also the auto fluid AND maual is to be changed at 30,000 or 24 months. for the mauals, if u dont drive 2 hard try the advice from 4doorkiller, really do this first and if that didnt do the trick, carbon syncros will have to be next.

The resting on the shifter doesnt bother fwd much. This theory applies to rwd/awd more since you dont have linkages to the transmission. If you look at a rwd/awd trans the shifter is sitting right on top of the trans. UNlike our fwd cars we have linkages that link to the engine bay so resting doesnt matter. But when resting your hand on a rwd/awd shifter amazingly you are actually putting force onto the trans. Hence why its not good to rest your hand on your shifter if its awd/rwd.

Now, it's shifting horrible due to fluid leaking out and lack of replenishment. So what I'm neglecting my trans and mounts, , H22 will be here really soon; as soon as they send me my damn checks in the mail.

AFter much research, i found the GM synchromesh "FRICTION MODIFIED" to be some of the best MTF available. It was made for some cadilacs and Colorado trucks (or equivalent).
Anyways, it's worked out pretty good in my 120k Mile 5 speed. That said, it is expensive and i think just the regular Penzoil Synchomesh (or GM if you want to pay more), is 95% as good.

I have a DIY short shifter, and like was mentioned, the shorter throws make it somewhat more "notchy" but it is smooth nonetheless. Only grinds if i'm EXTREMELY lazy. Maybe once a month.

I like the short throws, but the smoother motion of the stock length was nice too.

get some Honda MTF, give it about 5k miles, and it will make a noticable difference
