    HELP!!!!! OIL is leaking!!!

Ok, I jsut installed a new sender unit, after the guy I bought it from gave me the wrong part. This unit looks like a lobed-shape can..i would say like gold in color. One end you attach a gold adapter for the block, and the other end you attach the wire from your gauge. Well, I swapped it all out, and now my gauge is pegged at over 100psi. the thing that scares me is it's leaking oil! I drove it home from work (about a mile away) and it got all over..i smelt a burning smell, and smoke came, off of the header! I think it's comming from the unit, but I am not sure..i lost like half of a quart too! Someone, PLEASE help! I can't afford to have a blown motor..I really can't..

did u put "thread" tape or a teflon seal on the threads before installing? you kinda need that =)
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

I JUST replaced this oil pressure sender unit on my car today!

I was getting a leak, that trailed down the oil filter housing down onto the header, that created a burnt oil smell into the cabin.

Anyways, once this starts leaking it gets worse & leaks more. I was up to one quart a week.

Anyhow, you're problem is you probably installed it wrong. You need teflon tape or the liquid version like I put on them pipe threads. Then you start it by hand & because it's a tapered fit, you finish it off with a torque wrench to 13 lb-ft. I bought my unit from Advance Auto Parts for like $7.50.

You might as well do an oil change and while you have your oil filter off....do this job, install new oil filter & put in your 4.5 qts of oil.

Be careful not to put teflon tape or the liquid sealant version on the opening in the pipe threading of sender unit...don't plug it up!

BTW...I'd rather use the liquid sealant rather than teflon tape, I feel it seals better.

Anyhow, when you install the part, it has a tapered pipe thread. So you tighten it by hand and you'll feel it bottom out. At this point, use the torque wrench and tighten it down to 13 lb-ft.

What do you mean adapter? You shouldn't need an adapter for the correct part unless it's a ghetto part you're getting.

i think it depends how much oil u take out of the system...

cause i put in about 3.6 quarts and its full...

oh well glad u got it done

id rather use teflon seal as well....that liquid stuff..especially for any gas lines

Ok man, settle. I am not all up on you about it..I also think it depends on what filter you use. I use a tf2808 filter from work( I work at tires plus, as a mechanic, and general service tech..including oil changes) so, I only put in 3.7 to start wit..sometimes it needs more, sometimes less..

Are we talking about the oil-pressure sensor? If so, I ganked one from a D16 and tightened it by hand. No sealant...go gasket...no problems.

u were just lucky. sweet fit though.

and about the differnt oil filters, yes differnt oil filters have differnt capacity. like if you were to use a fram, it would be about 3.8 quarts i think and maybe a differnt filter more or less depending on its capacity and dementions inside.

so that can be a possibility. also even if 2 filters are the same with 2 differnt fill capacities, doesnt mean the filters are identical inside cause some are made in the US, canada, japan and else where...they are all differnt but in the same way.

just as long as that oil is up between the 2 dots on the stick is all that matters =)

WIX oil filters are best. Argue not. They own you.

I use Purolator oil filters...so maybe that's why the differences. Yea, I've heard WIX filters are good too, I work for the company that makes them...Dana Corp...I could get a discount from NAPA on that shit, but I don't for whatever reason.

Sorry Swifty....I'm just pissed from other things today & the oil filter differences is prolly why.

                        Anyhow, is it leaking still?

yea I've heard this...the Eibach sportlines are supposedly lower.....look into H&R sport springs too.....or go coil over sleeves...I hear ground control is good for these if you get this type for lowering.
