Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Went to the shop

Now i went to the racing shop and they told me that if i put in the type s pistons that hes gonna have to rehone the cylinders and that there is no guarantee that the cylinders may seal is this true or bullshit when puttin in type-s pistons .

Also guys would you guys change your rods for 217whp? with just allmotor work? 217 being the goal

I don't think you need to change rods for that goal, unless you're gonna run nitrous on top of it.

It would be more cost effective and better for peace of mind to buy new rods as opposed to shot peening the stock ones. If you ever plan on pushing more than 300whp or if you plan on spraying or boosting, swap the rods. If you're going to keep the all-motor power under 300 or so, leave the stock ones in. If you can get an awesome deal on shot peening and you can find a convenient time to have it done, do it. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

That sealing info your shop gave you doesn't make much sense if by honing he means with that it will fall back to good specs for rings to seat well. I assume when he mentioned just honing, it's cuz your cylinder walls are in good shape already. From what I've heard & read it's all in the machine work of block, installation of the piston rings & how you break them in & quality of the rings....not just cuz this shop guy wasn't sure.

honing is not boring. as long as he hones them correctly and uses the proper piston ring end gap then you should be fine. honing is the process of cleaning the cylinders of any scuffs or marks. this is usually done to cylinders that are in good shape and are true.
