Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    dc headers making weird noise

    Hi,

I got a use dc header from a friend and installed the header couple weeks ago. I noticed the headers made a thumping or choking noise when I put my car in reverse. When its in drive, it sounds fine. Is it normal?

    btw...it's a 93 accord lx.

    thanks

When I put my car in reverse it sounds like the engine is choking or dying. After I put the car in drive, it sounds fine. It's coming from the header. Is it a characteristic of the dc headers?

All I can think of is that the header isn't secure, and when you put the car in reverse it migh open the gap a little when the engine tilts.

Does the car feel any different?

I need you to elaborate a little more... from getting in the car to the noise... better description of the noise.

Put the car in reverse and when it starts its noise, apply the parking brake, pop the hood and jump out... see if you can locate the exact source of the sound.

Sounds like the down pipe is hitting the cross member when the engine rocks a little bit. Try blocking your wheels leave the car running in reverse with the e-brake on and see if you can check the cross member clearance. If it is hitting then you might have weak motor mounts or a bad fitment requiring you to some how bend or cut the flange off the cross member about a 1/8 inch where its rubbing. Please just make sure you block your wheels
