Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

Im going to even though I dont need to point out that this guy is an idiot.

and the H22 is supposed to get 5.5qts even though I run 5.

and why have an H23 when you can have H22 some people just dont get it. Vtec hands down owns all and the people who bash are just jealous becasue they either cant afford it or their complete morons.

My h22 burn no oil and as for the car gets louder when vtec kicks in i love it and why would you want vtec to engage when the engine light is on.the engine light on is a sign of trouble slow down check it out not hit it hard and burn it up.

I'm not partial to either. I think you're overall setup is more important and just because you have either, does not mean your faster. VTEC in itself means nothing, unless it's one of the performance oriented VTEC systems (i.e. 5th gen Accord VTEC vs H22 VTEC/GSR VTEC). On a non-VTEC you can usually get performance camshafts/regrinds for it. However, on the VTEC systems usually the performance camshafts are significantly more expensive. The concept of VTEC is nice though and with a non-VTEC setup you have to sacrifice some comforts to use a performance camshaft (depending on how extreme you go) because you either do it or you don't.

Instead of making it a VTEC vs non-VTEC, why not just simply list the pros & cons. Like I said before, you're overall setup is what's more important, not whether you have VTEC or not.

The main disadvantage to VTEC is cost. It is technologically more advanced, which means there is less compromise in the tuning. That's why they make such crazy HP and are still driveable.

I don't really think reliability is too much of a concern, because they have proven over 15 years of hard use, that they still don't really break that often.

Unfriendliness to boost is perhaps another downside, but that depends on whether or not you want to boost. All DOHC VTECS have high compression, and the Nikasil cylinder linings on the H series are not compatible with forged parts, so if you want to seriously boost reliably, then you will probably have to redo the bottom end.

Other than that, there aren't any.

                VTEC advantages:
Can run more aggressive cams on VTEC side while maintaining a very streetable cam on Non VTEC side.
                Saves gas and cheats emisions

                Non-Vtec advantages:
                Cost Effective
                More abundance

My solution to people who want Vtec but dont want to pay the inflated price:

                1. Do a Wikked Hybrid
                2. Stay Non-Vtec and buy a big cam (my preference)
                3. Slap Vtec stickers in front of the rear wheelwells and lie to yourself.

The large oil capacity decreases oil temps at high rpms. There is also an increased need for oil due to the fact that the entire VTEC system uses oil to work everything. Plus, they are being safe. The engine will actually survive on a lot less, but what if you blow an oil filter and realize it right away. That extra oil might buy you the time you need.

well one con with vtec as far as allout drag goes, like the 7 scond guys. The vtec system uses oil and there are oil pressure probs with vtec and big turbos or even the all motor dude with vtec you run into oil pressure fluctuation with crazy setups. but as far as dailies and dual purpose use vtec is the shit.
