Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

No cheap way to 200 crank HP...

I was bored at work thinking of how to get to 170-180whp, and there's no way cheaper than turboing...but there are def. options:

    H22A+I/H/E- $2600+

    F22A->"F20D"
    H22A crank- $400
H22A trans- $1000 (on ebay right now)
    Raceeng 11:1 pistons- $450
    Web 235/230 cam- $250
    Megan I/H/E- $500
    TOTAL- $2600

    F22B DOHC 11:1
    F22B- $800
    Megan I/H/E- $500
    Raceeng 11:1 pistons- $450
    Cam gears- $180
    Web Cams(optional)- $320
    TOTAL- $1930-2250

etc., etc...there's definitely no easier way than the turbo to go, which is unfortunate for all-motor buffs. I guess if you're in contact with people who can get you parts cheap it pays off, but for the average Joe it's def. not easy at all. And I included the H22A trans for the "F20D" because it could never make that kind of power revving to 6300rpm...with the better geometry of the bottom end and the new cam it could prob. make useful power to 8000rpm easily.

Jeebus... 1k for an H22A tranny? That's insane... i wouldn't pay over 350-400 for one... I don't care what it has...The tranny has nothing to do with how much power you put down unless you are talking auto vs manual and it has nothing to do with how high you can rev....

And why WEB for the regrinds? Go Delta and save yourself half of that est cost...

you also forgot to add in things like machine shop work... honing and milling and whatnot...and incidentals of course... like bearings and seals and fluids and the parts you never planned on buying but need to be replaced anyways upon further inspection...

Turbo aint cheap either though...regardless of what other people have spent... If you don't have hookups or friends or luck upon deals then you will be spending more than you want to regardless of the route you take...

Just watch though... I will hit at least 180whp with my F20A DOHC...N/A... heh heh heh... for less than 1200...

IMO you are just randomly shooting for a HP number... the H22 tranny implies you want good 1/4 mile times too... if this is a daily driver be prepared to make some hardcore sacrifices in your quest for whatever... I'd say just pick what you want your claim to fame to be and go for it... You want WHP or what? a good all around car? You sound like you still don't know what you want and are weighing all the options... if you don't settle on an idea and go for it you prob won't have the drive to complete it... 2point6 had his heart in it... R33 and MRX had their hearts in it... kentucky had his heart in it... you just have to decide what you want to do...realistically... then you will know which way to go... sometimes it's not about anything more than wanting to complete the crazy idea in your head... and you get bogged down by doubts and details and budgets and whatnot... bleh... I liked the F20D idea personally and was kinda hoping to see it one day...

Slap some sidedraft carbs on the ole SOHC, put a giant bumpstick in, mill the shit outta the head, some rod bolts and bearings and you'll hit your number with the right tuning...

Well I'll just be blunt...basically I want my car to keep up w/my friends' V6 Nissan Altimas and Maximas, which are all ~15.0 sec 1/4 mile cars. The "easiest" route of course is the H22, which would probably destroy them all with just some run of the mill bolt ons...but at the same time, the F22 hasn't been fully exploited yet as far as natural aspiration goes, and I would not mind being the first to be in the 14's with a fully loaded EX 5spd. It's definitely possible.

As far as the F20D concept, basically I wanted to do a rebuild using the F22 head and block with 11.5:1 pistons and a 90mm H22 crank. I'd let it rev up to about 8k, get a good regular lift long duration cam, and hopefully make my goal. I thought about milling the head, and while it could work, I'd rather let the engine have lighter guts and make the power up top than stress out the old pistons/rods with a milled head...and anyways I don't know of any reputable machine shops in my area, although I'm sure there's one somewhere. But basically a high 14-sec N/A F22 Accord is what I want, and I'm just trying to figure out how to get there...I might get another F22 and build it in my garage and drop it in, but that would take forever...

As far as the H22 tranny, it's really not necessary, and it def. bumps up the price, but I think its a worthy investment. With an 8000rpm motor+F22 tranny 3rd gear would end at about 100mph, which would be good for the 1/4 I guess...but then 4th and 5th would end at like 130 and 160, which would be alright for gas but terrible for daily driving. If I could get an H22 tranny and swap out the final gear that would be best, but whatever.

As far as actually doing anything, I'm basically trying to get a good full time job so I can buy all the parts. Once I have anything I can build the engine on my own (I've done it before) over a weekend, and then drop it in the weekend after...it's just a matter of $$ for me right now.
