Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Hood stand off/spacer

Ok I didn't know where to post this...it's not really an appearance issue... and I did it for performance reasons... and this forum isn't the fastest moving... if it needs moving I understand... Please leave a redirect tho... thx...

Anyways... I know someone here, or a couple people for that matter... i think Fushigi was one of them... had put washers in between the hood and hinges for the stand off effect and I was searching but I couldn't find who it was...

    Just hoping for some pics...

I did this and I've noticed slightly cooler bay and coolant temps... and a tiny bit better throttle response from a dead stop... but I was hoping for some pics from those who have done it... I'm just curious how much you lifted the hood just to compare...

i did but took it off the same day b4 i even drove the car. I think i'd rather take out some of the backing of the underside of the hood. It just didn't look right

It has a HUGE effect. I have a temp gauge the measures underhood temps and when I'm sitting still during the summer it averages around 180 to 190 degrees. When moving it drops down to 75 to 80 degrees. It really helps vent the hot air out of the engine bay. I raised the rear 3/4" using one piece nylon washers....

yeah, sounds like a winner to me. I was either thinking to raise up the middle part of the hood.. which would take welding, and all that, or just trim out that stuff to give the same effect. But it makes sense, since you are giving the hot air a way out. You have the fans blowing it around, but there isnt a way for them to really cool it off much.

                    It really does help...

                    I can notice a difference.

I used 1 nut and since I was feeling ghetto... some valve cover washers... The rubber actually helps seal to the flat surface a bit better...

I only used a nutt, valve cover grommet and longer bolts on the back 2... the ones by the windsheild... I used only a valve cover grommet on the other 2...it's really easy... not really worth a DIY... all you have to do is find something to space the hinge from the hood...you put it in between the hinge and the hood...the bolt goes in from the other side of the bracket... I DID have to find longer bolts to get enough of a lift to make a difference... but luckily I had some old ones just laying around tat work... I'm pretty sure they came from the engine bay or engine itself... I dunno though... I have too many damn bolts to count...

If you don't mind the misaligned hood look then it actually is a good thing...

I was looking at someones car pics and he and fushigi talked about it... and it reminded me of my old VW bug days when guys would buy brackets to do the same thing...even though they are air cooled engines...they swear by it... as do some V8 and porsche guys...

now some ram air tubing by the SRI filter and i think I'll be happy... summer temps and powah don't mix...bleh...

and I'll try to snap some pics of mine tomorrow... by chance would anyone have pics of the actual hinge... Don't worry if it's ghetto... wait til you see mine...lol

Does anyone have a picture of the louvers or just a small scoop at the back? Since this works it would be nice, but I also have to go with something that doesnt totally open up the hood. I dont like the not fitting look, and cant let too much rain get in. I was thinking about just a small scoop facing backwards, or just lifting up the rear of the hood.

what are yo actually adding washers between? the hood and the hinge? or the hinge and the car frame?

and wont that cause a problem when it rains or you want to wash your car? i would assume if its raised like that you might have a problem keeping water out.
