I have to disagree with keele.........From my understanding the cold air intake is better top end and short ram is better low end so you decide.........taking off from dead stop or highway pulls

short ram intake vs cold air intake

What's wrong with having the stock intake? I think it is just as efficient.
The only two designs that would make sense to me are 1. short ram with a very well designed heat shield/box or 2. modified stock intake with a slightly bigger air inlet tubeLast edited by rexload; 06-14-2008, 11:27 PM.

no offense what so ever.. but go do some research before you make such blatent statements.
your theory makes no since whatsoever. and if it did, why don't race cars use this idea of yours?
CAI has more low end torque because it already has more air ready available when taking off. Once up to speed and at higher rpm's it is struggling to pull that air from 4 ft away back up to the intake, causing a lag in the system, thus causing loss of power.
SR does the direct oposit of this.ITB's are even worse on bottom end, but with a better tune and higher advancement in timing in the lower rpm's, you'll feel no lag whatsoever.
All this dealing with the intake, also has to co-exzist with the style( intake manifold) IM that you have.
I don't care if it's ITB SR CAI your IM has got to be ready for the change to work together.

Keele i understand what you have said but this is no where near a blatent or ignorant statement. ITBs provide better throttle response therefore better torque, I was in no way calling out your intelligence or experience of cars just stating that I disagree. Short ram have better response therefore are torquer than cold air. If yours was the case I think, higher end N/A(naturally aspirated) cars would not use ITBs just a great cold air induction. Even motorcycles would not use such things if they didn't work. But I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this particular subject.Dont drive faster than your gaurdian angel can fly
