Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    f22a1 port and polish?

would it be worth getting the head ported and polished, ive heard before these heads flow good so would p&p just be wasting money

    #2
They are capable of flowing very well... after modification. So yes, P&P is worth it, if you're doing a serious build. If you're just throwing random parts at it in hopes of making power, then don't waste your money.

Well why I asked is last year my timing belt broke and I was hoping for the best when I installed the new one. After the new one was on it has a slight valve tick an a oil leak in between the head an block on the intake driver side(leaked b4 the belt broke). My plan was to pull the same head off a car at the jy an take the head an get it all inspected. Using all factory internals with no plan on modifications would the p&p b useless

It wouldn't be useless... but it'd be overkill. It would be like running a brand new 7 core processor on a computer running Windows 95.

honestly...porting and polishing aint shit without a flow bench. with the flow bench i used at school, i was able to gain 15 cfm without even touching the ports.

without the flow bench, i wouldn't of known anything. most people who port heads aim to hog the ports but hogging the ports usually results in velocity loss.

I know its different from place to place but what's a estimated cost to get a head checked out make sure there no cracks an that all the valves and valve seals are good.....etc

Its mostly the exhaust ports that need help, which is what the "budget ported" F22A that is in the data I have largely consisted of.

I just thought I would throw this useful piece of information to the thread.

I had my a6 intake manifold, mainly the runners gasket matched, p&p, and flow balanced by CHR Racing and here are the results.

Max flow of one runner without the iab plate, plenum or throttle body to restrict flow; 332.2cfm:

Max flow of one runner with iab plate, plenum and throttle body on; 285.2cfm:

Here are the flow numbers for each runner after the work was finished. Top number is with the butterfly's open, and the bottom number is with them closed:

If your pushing over 300cfm on the intake side of the head, you definately would want to ditch iab plate, as it truly would be a restriction. The intake manifold is definately capable of those flow numbers.

Call around to your local machine/engine shops and ask for a few quotes. Prices can tend to differ slightly from place to place.

For example; I had my head cleaned and checked for $80 at one shop. While the other shop across town wanted to charge $100 for same process.

Exactly. It's not something with a universal set price. It's also not necessarily going to be the same level of quality from place to place either (P&P more so than just checking and cleaning, or rebuilding.) Unfortunately, the "you get what you pay for" rule doesn't necessarily apply.

you're looking to start at 450, you'll want to replace the guides at the same time. bowl work, valve job and surface is usually extra. altogether, iif you aren't spending at least 750 then the job is too cheap.

RLZ charges $900 for their street/strip IIRC it includes a 5 axis CNC porting/chambers/ and valve job with resurfacing.

Prices will definitely vary from shop to shop.
