    intake vaccum line question

    OK...

so i've had my intake installed for a year or so... (short ram)

    now my question is...

is it better to have That Extra Long Vacuum line Removed and Capped off? or should it stay connected to the lil black box thing?, or should it be some how directly lined to the intake? i'm debating....

i'm not talking about the short one, i'm talking about the Long one. (the short one i have attached to the intake) , and of course the thick one is going to the valve cover. but this long one is bugging me.

when i plug-up the long vaccum hose the car does sound different... but i dunno if that's a "better" different or what. there definintely is suction coming from that long hose also.

as well... it says in the "cold air intake diy" to just Cap it off... but i would wonder why we would do that? shouldn't air be going into it? and what does that lil black air box do that is connected to it?

someone lemme know which way i should do it.

an good quality made CAI or Short Air intake should have the little nibble for u to connect that little vaccum line, but most other intake will only have the big nibble for the big hose. You can cap the little vacumm line , your idle will drop a little bit when you cold start the engine but it should not make any problem, many people have cap the line and idle ok. my intake has both big and small nibble for both vacumm line.

the little-short intake line is attached to a "nibble" on my intake(i have 2 "nibbles" the big and small one. ,. now the 3rd vaccume line i'm reffering to is the REALLY long one that goes all the way to this little box on the left side of the battery that i'm wondering about. i know someone will know what i'm talkin about

thanks for the response but we aren't talking about the same line.

here is a pic......... of what i'm talking about...

      http://www.lightningmotorsports.com/...90Accord10.jpg

      maybe it's only on A6's ?

anyway it says in the coild air intake diy , when installing Cold air intakes to remove, the lil box, and to plug the line, which could be beacause the cold air intake runts right threw that space, and needs the room.
but with short ram is it better to plug this 3rd line or to do something else?

ok and here is one final example of what i'm talking about.........

        http://www.lightningmotorsports.com/...90Accord11.jpg

now where it says "use aem filter foam" instead, i have it attached to the extra lil port on the actual intake tube..... and where it says "cap off vaccum port" i have the Original , long tube(shown in previous post) running to the lil box (which is now basically hooked to nothing)

why plug this? what does it do? wouldn't that ultimately be putting less air into the I M by plugging it?

these are the questions i have. i know why they plug it on cold air... but why plug it on short rams?

        anyway.

thats the best i can explain it, hopefully someone has the answers.

if i can remember right thats a charcol box,,((correct me if im wrong, wich i know someon will)) but its not needed by any meens... and as for plugin the nipple and getting less air flow... no.. thats not for air flow as the butterfly is... all these little lines when pluged in dont have air flow at all... the neg. pressure in the intake sucks the air out of the lines closing or opening different things so capping them wont change air flow at all... as per the difference in feel.... i dunno .. maybe now with out the stock box theres an air leek on that line somewhere but ive had all my cb7s this way and they are fine... hope it helps

yeah when i installed my short ram, i didnt cap anything, i just let the long one sit there(apparently that activates a valve to let more air into the stock airbox and actives a vavle at 4k for sound or something , per haynes) and the other one i connected to the intake as usual

can anyone confirm the actual purpose for this (the one that says cap off vacuum port)

does removing the black box have any effect on getting the car to pass smog?
And remember kids, if it's wet, it's not a fart.

if you are talking about the one in the bumper, it has no effect on the smog, its a silencer. later.

yea that lil black box is connected to one of the two intake tubes leading to the large intake tube. wat it does is open and close the extra tube so it is a lil more quite at idle.

I am getting ready to install a new Cold Air Intake because I messed my old one up when installing the bypass valve. I have read the install that everyone follows but have some questions. I removed the vaccum line that leads to the old air box and capped it. I have the other vaccum line which is the back one on the intake manifold, just cut and sitting there. I put a breather filter on the engine head instead of connecting the hose to the intake tube. I would like to know if I should cap off the far back vaccum line or connect it to the little nipple on the intake tube or cap it as well. Also I ordered a Oil catch can to put in line with the PCV Valve and Head of the engine, but should I get another to put in line with the head and the cia intake tube where its supposed to go?? Please help me out. Any help will be great cause I plan on doing all of this friday. Thanks guys.
