Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

gutting out an H23 intake manifold

Hey I had some questions about my potential H23 intake manifold swap.
    • How do i delete the intake butterflies?
    • How do I access the EGR ports?
    • What do the intake butterflies really do?
    • How well does the engine run at lower rpms with a gutted IM?

As far as taking out the butterflies you remove the iab plate which is between the runners and the plenum. I used a dremel to cut everything up but whatever works best for you. You'll want to unscrew all of the butterfly plates and then remove the rod that they were attached to. After that get some jb weld and some tape. All of those holes that are left from where the rod went through need to be seeled off or you'll get a whistling noise. Tape off one side of the hole and then fill it up with the jb from the other. Do that to all of them and then let it dry. Once dry go back and sand all of them down until they are smooth. This is kinf of a vague description but hopefully you get the point. The egr ports I believe are the same as on the f runners and you'll have to drill all of them out and then go back with plugs that you can get from your local hardware store and seal them back up after you clean everything out.

The intake butterflies seal off four of the ports between the runners and the plenum at low rpm to give you more bottom end torque. The a1 intake only has four ports where as the a6, h22, and h23 have 8. The butterflies keep four of them closed until you get into the higher rpm range and then they are opened by vaccum and you have all 8 ports open for more airflow.

There's a write-up on this somewhere but i'm tired as hell and don't know where to get it right off. Hopefully this helped out some though.
