Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Stock Air Box Question

So I did a lil digging around here and was reading about how the stock air box with a lil modding can be just as good as a CAI.

My question is, since I have a JDM H22, should I run that little controler box that is supposed to control the air flow through that Air box? Or would it just kill my top end powah? lol

Or since im running an H, should I just step up to a aftermarket CAI...

Sorry if this has been discused before, but i couldnt really find much on these peticular questions.

No matter what you've read, the stock airbox and tube will not flow as well as an aftermarket CAI. I'd step up to a cheap CAI with a quality filter.

I modified my stock airbox by replacing the dual inlet ducts with a 3" tube and velocity stack into the airbox and then either a stock rubber tube or a 3" intake piece with couplers into the TB.

It flows just as well as an aftermarket CAI and it is quieter. The expansion chamber of the airbox quiets the sound waves.

You COULD try to make the arguement that there isn't as much resonance tuning that way, but the fact is that resonance tuning occurs over such a narrow RPM range that it is probably insignificant, and the quietness is much appreciated.

If you want to keep the airbox...make an aluminum bend for the part that goes to the throttle body. The stock resonators in the intake tract fuck around with the flow.

              Ok guys, good to know.

Yea I think I will just keep the factory box and mod the piping between the TB and box and maybe have some hoses going into the fender like someone spoke of above.

I just kinda want a small project to fidel with lol.

K&N filter is a must tho.

I agree with the person speaking about the sipples in the stock line creating turbulance...

Or you can spend like 20 bucks or if you have a welder you can make that bend yourself its really not hard.
