    Darton MID sleeves

So I called up my local machine shop about getting and installing the Darton MID sleeves 400-150. They wont do it. They have had multiple Honda blocks drop sleeves before with Dartons. They had a local high performance shop here called adrenaline motor sports call them up and request the installation of Darton MID sleeves in one of it's motors. They didn't do it. Adrenaline Motor Sports sent the block off the Darton directly and after 3 races the sleeves dropped - so I hear.

Has anyone here had issues with Darton MID sleeves? I've been told that LA Sleeves is a much better choice and is much closer to a true sleeve than the Dartons.

Please if you haven't had any experience with this product in your engine I'd really prefer not to hear about how a buddy of a friend of yours installed their sleeves with a dremel in their back yard and how tough they are and blah blah blah. DIRECT EXPERIENCE! Other wise your in the same boat I am. lol.

They explained it to me like this. With the MID sleeves the sleeve and deck are all one. When a sleeve is "dropped" the deck height of that sleeve will be lower than the rest so it looks like part of the deck is recessed.

I'm not quite sure of it myself but they said they called Darton directly and explained to them that they followed the instructions and there is no room for operator error since it's all CNC milled.

I'm just trying to see if anyone else has heard about this or experienced this.

If so I'll just go with the open deck L.A. Sleeves. I really don't think I'll be making more than 400 hp anyway.

Any sleeve company sleeves can drop. Its not the actuall sleeve its the installation.

Just because its CNC does not mean its 100% right. The table could be off, the block could be not squared properly, they didnt identify the edge of the block right. There are alot of factors that could cause problems.

If you are having problems with darton sleeves then try a different company.

If I remembered right benson sleeves are modifed darton mid sleeves.

You can go through these guys,

I have Golden eagle sleeves. While there is nothing wrong with their work, Their customer service is not the best. Not the worse but not the best. If you want to get golden eagle sleeves go directly throgh them. I made a mistake and went through Camp1320 and was a big pain in the ass. They still owe me $120 for things they never did.

im guessing you have an open deck motor. i had an h22a4 with open deck and they wouldnt install the mid kit bc of the problems mentioned above. i waited until after i blew my jdm h22 and just used the darton iron sleeves. i didnt check to see if anyone else made some good mid sleeve kit that wont fail.

How long have you had your sleeves installed. I'm ultimately going for reliability and not power. So when I hear that the block could fail, I'm pretty turned off.

Both blocks that the machine shop cracked were cracked on the crank bearing journal area... They said they pressed the sleeves in... and on the 3rd block they didnt press them as hard... I think it was more as user error... I drove the car for 1 year on the street and put 7k on the motor... and i did run 20psi a few times at the dragstrip...

What happened to it? Did your sleeves eventually fail? Did the block itself fail?

I've decided to just do it right. I've talked with Bisimoto and their reps are FAST like none other. I replied to an email with my personal information and within 5 min I had a phone call from them.

I've settled on sending my block to bisi and getting the golden eagle sleeves. It's nice they come with a warrenty and none of their blocks have failed, to my knowledge and to the reps knowledge, EVER! I thought that's pretty cool.

I had no problems with the golden eagle sleeves themselves. Just the service getting to the sleeving.

Just make sure you get everything done the same time. Send your pistons to them with the block so they can bore and hone it the same time.
