So i found a complete h23 for sale. hes asking 300. i donno what route to go with my cb7. But anyways i was wondering if theres anyway to tell if an engine is good or not without having to take it apart. Is there anything that can be done? Or would i have to take it apart or just swap it and hope like hell it runs? Thanks

Please DO NOT Post In The General Section
From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.
The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.
For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.
Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.
Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

I don't think the OP is a grown man. He's only 18 and can't decide what he wants.
In the past month alone, he's gone from about to buy an h22, about to buy an f22b and now an h23.
Dude, decide wtf you want to do. Unless you buy from someone reputable, you won't get a good engine. Even then, there's still the posibility of a bad one.
Stop being such a woman and stop making so many damn threads with these hopeful wishes of you wanting to get such and such engine and do such and such things to it.
FYI, when I bought my h22 for $400, I was told it was in good runnig conditoin and had under 100k miles. I starter her up and it had rod knock. What sucks is it was an old member from here.
You have 2 options:
1) buy a motor directly from an engine importer. There's still a chance you'll get a bad motor.
2) grab your balls, squeeze them and go balls deep into building your own motor.Last edited by d112crzy; 06-04-2009, 05:47 PM.

Thanks d112. ive just had lots of thoughts. I was still planning on the h22 though. But he wants 1000 and my a6 and it seems like right now I'm not getting anymore then 600 saved up then I gotta spend someone for the kid, insurance and I've been using money for my wedding that's coming up. So I'm trying to find something nice and hope I don't have to spend too much on it. So thanks for straightening that up. I delete some of the pointless threads. I just gotta figure something out. Thanks.

Don't delete them, some of them have some useful info. Just stop creating them and do some actual research instead of having everything spoon fed to you.
You're 18, about to get married and have a kid.
Buying/building an engine should be the very last thing on your mind right now.

I've been doin plenty of research. Of course there's a few questions to be asked. Building/buying an engine should be the last thing on the list, but at the same time what's wrong with saving money for something I want? Its not like its the only thing I've been taking care of. This is the only thing you guys see/hear from me. Its a car forum not family/car forum. But thanks for the help. I have learned a lot of info from you. That's for sure. And still learning.

just get a compression tester from advance or auto zone rent it out and check the compression of the motor if it is still in the car. 300 bucs should be a good deal, if u really really want the motor. I would recommend just getting it rebuilt anyway.

I'm getting married on the 19th of this month. Graduating high school on yhe 15th. Going to the service sometime in august. Just wanted to find something good that's gonna be boosted after I join and am settled in. Thanks for the help guys. But I do put fam first. Gettinga new engine is just something I've had planned for a while just finally saved up some money.

stick with the h23 and boost it. if you spend 1k on a h22, thats 700 that could have been spent on building the turbo kit up.
remember that forced induction will find your weak points so that means you may have to start upgrading the clutch, axles and tires if you go high enough. if you are still under 300hp, you will probably get away with stock honda axles.
