I have a jdm h22a, will typeS cams improve my performance? Cb7tuner member "flatline" was talkin about that, so I'm curious.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.
Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Yes they will improve your performance. Those are the cams that cam in the 220hp versions of the H22. You can also get the F20B cams, which are the same as the Type S cams. It will have to get a tune though to get it to run right with those cams.Last edited by 93F22A6; 01-11-2009, 01:10 AM.

I suggest you do some research on them..These cams are more aggressive than Crower Stage 2 cams...You can't just simply slap them on a stock head, because you will start breaking things..
Search Type-S cams on HT, or Google, or whatever, you will see what I mean..Type-S and Euro-R stock heads are not the same as normal H22 heads..
In conclusion, yes they do add power because they are aggressive, but you need to do some head work on your motor before it is ready to receive these cams. Good luck!

You CAN run them with stock valve train. However, with the stock valvetrain, you won't have the reliability of revving all the way to 8k without worrying of breaking your shit.

I was doing my research last month, and here are some of the quotes I found that stopped me from slapping on Type-S cams..
Originally posted by H-T"...i saw a dyno of tuned JDM h22a cams vs. tuned type s cams in the same motor and it was less than 5hp difference at any point, even at peak......any stage 1 cam w/ tuning would give you more for your money.......and the type s cams will wear prematurely due to slightly different points of stress on the core itself.....sure, it's round and spins but it's being pushed from a slightly different angle by the valve stem as well and from what i've heard from smart guys, they will wear, cause the valves to go out of adjustment, etc..."Originally posted by H-T"...i thought that the euro R cams and they type S cams were nearly identical.. and the type S cams were more agressive than the skunk 2 stg 1's... i saw a website where it had all the cam specs, and i thought that the lift on the typeS cams was equivalent of a crower 2 cam.
edit.. i found the site, here..

I would not try it. unless you stay well away from redline. lift on the type s intake cam is about .475 or 12mm. that is more than crower stage 2 which recomends springs. Try it and see. but post the nasty pics when it blows up, we all love that so much. if you have the engine and head all apart spend the extra $150 for titanium retainers for a little assurance but I would blow the $250 for springs...."
If I remember correctly, H22 Type-S and F20B heads are designed differently, and they also have different valves, valve springs and retainers? Please correct me if I'm wrong
Hope that helps and good luck with the decision!

They might, I don't know for sure because I don't care enough to research. But I do know you can install them and not run into any problems.
The oil you use is pretty important in rocker wear though. High zinc is what you need.
But just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. I would never use type s cams in my own h22 without using the valvetrain from it.
I wouldn't use type s cams anyways.Last edited by d112crzy; 01-12-2009, 03:50 PM.

Yeah if you upgrade your valve springs and retainers you should be okay..
Based on the specs, they do sound aggressive...But then, like Jose said, turns out they don't have much gain over stock H22 cams...Not just Jose, many people who have installed these swear that Skunk2 Stage 1 cams will make more power than these Type-S cams with little to no effort..I honestly don't know why..But I do know that Type-S heads and Euro-R heads are designed slightly different..And I'm not just talking valves, springs and retainers..
Like I said, I suggest you do more research on it..Just because they're a good deal doesn't mean they're worth all the hassle for less than 5whp gain..
But in the end, your money, your car, your decision..Good luck with it!
