i never understood what was so much better about having a p28 ecu over a p13. everyone i seem to know say i should get rid of the p13 and chip a p28 what is the difference and why?

p13 vs. p28?

p28s and p06s are chippable ecu's as opposed to the p13 which is not. If you get a chipped p28 you can add/delete knock sensors, egr, iabs, even the o2 sensor if you really want to. plus once you get some mods done you can reburn a new basemap for better accommodation of your new mods.
in short, a chipped p28 opens more doors for the future modification of your H

Most civic ecu's share the same board, Thus can be converted to any of each other ecu. For example I've taken a P06 and added in Vtec, And then added in the IAB control, Thus making this ecu into a GSR P72 without the knock sensor.

P13s are chippable. The reason (that Ive read) no one does it is because Accord and Prelude ECUs use multiplication based fuel maps, while Civic and Integra ECUs use addition based fuel maps. Which one do you think is easier to tune?
The only reason to get a chipped ecu is to TUNE it to extract every last hp out of your engine and modifications. If youre just going to get a chipped ecu to have a chipped ecu, dont waste your time or money, because itll be useless without a TUNE. Proper tunes cost money. Tuning yourself requires a lot of time, including learning software, learning MORE about air/fuel ratios and MORE about what each part of your fuel system does, not to mention finding an empty stretch of road to tune on or renting (or knowing someone with) a dyno. If you wanna do it right. Otherwise, youll just have the same old motor with the same old power, unless you get a shitty basemap, in which case youll have the same old motor with a lot less power.Last edited by texasvtak; 06-10-2008, 06:22 PM.
