My roommate has a JBL 2-channel amp that recently stopped working. It's worked for a couple of years without issue in his truck but then stopped all of a sudden today. It will power up for a second then immediately turn off as if it overheated except it's not on long enough to overheat. It will automatically turn on again about 10 seconds later only to repeat the process again. Any ideas? Time for a new amp? Thanks.

sounds like something internally fried, and its time for a new amp... Unless you can find someplace to repair it...

Even if I could find someone to repair it, I guess it's not worth it. He can buy a new one just like it for $60 so I'll just tell him to do that. Thanks for the input man.My Members' Ride Thread - It's a marathon build, not a sprint. But keep me honest on the update frequency!

or you could just ditch the weight of an amp and sub and enjoy the noise of the engine.
But seriously, an expensive audio setup with some nice speakers and tweeters can produce a nice clear sound, compared to anything with a sub that just bumps and annoys neighbors.
Call me crazy but I'd rather just enjoy the highs and mids of my speakers and keep the weight off.

If he didnt want bass and wanted a better 1/4 mile i think he would take that in to consideration .... and who's to say this isant in an SUV? Nice rant though Torqstr
Any how start out but taking a look at the insides see if anything been fried the previously said. I had one of the wires that trips the thermal protection fired, soldering another one... and i was ready to go. I dunno if its going to blow up on me but its working for the time being.
