    Ultimate Running/Parking Light Problem

I have searched and read every single post or thread dealing with those that had a parking light problem and none helped to resolve my problem.

    How it started.
For about 3 months I had no radio in my vehicle since someone broke in and stole the indash screen faceplate. I had since removed the headunit since no faceplate. I then inturn removed the EQ,Amps, speakers & cap. why have them in if not being used. During those 3 months I had a fog light burn out but since the C over here complain that my lights are too bright I never bothered to turn them on at all.

    The Event

yesterday or day before we had alot of fog and I work until 1am in the morning so I needed my fog lights. So while in my flatbed I went out and grab a new 55 h3 bulb and placed it in the fog light.During that time I was like Fuck it and let me throw a radio so I can have some type of music while I drive her until I get a new system. So went to the back of the yard grab a headunit from one of the impound soon to be junked cars. Placed the bulb in the fog and wired in the radio.
1am hits and I took the car home and everything was fine until about 1 mile from my home and I mean ONE MILE. I had just passed the 1 mile marker and had less then 900 feet until my house or driveway. When I see my dash clock started flickering real bright and then regular about 5 times. I figured something was wrong so I cut the electric off and just let the motor run until I get home. As I approached my driveway my parking lights came on its own without me hitting a switch. I couldnt turn them off so I popped the hood and pulled the fuse. Its 2am now I cant starting troubleshooting in the dark. I will wait until the morning.

I get up plug the fuse in all the parking lights come on again. I figure let me run to my boys yard and grab a new signal switch and dim switch. I come home and replace all the switches. I put the bat cable back on the battery and the running lights come back on again. I then pull the signal switch off and one running light goes out and the others stay on. I figure it has to be a short in that one light. I then drop the bumper and remove the headlight to check the wire. Find that both the wires are grounds for some reason or another. I attempt to trace the wire back and reach the firewall. No breaks in line. I then proceed to check the signal relay. I pull it and nothing happens. I place it back and then the left signal comes solid even with the key not in the ignition. The other parking lights remained on the whole time.

I have now dropped the instrument bezel around the dash and removed the center column to attempt to locate the wire. Still no breaks. I check all the fuses again and replace for the sake or replacing them. Nothing changes. I then follow the dim switch wire(Red w/black stripe) back as far as I can still no breaks. The only thing i can think off is its directly behind the dash. I have no time in pulling the dash since I cannot drive a flatbed with my Youngest to school. No carseat will fit and the school doesnt allow truck on premises since have the area is a college, so must use the car. I can only think of now sending it to the dealer but they quoted me @ 120 a hour and the min is 2 1/2 hours. FUCKing CROOKS but I cant even drive the car now since my running lights stay on and the left signal remains on.

Anyone face this type of problem before?????

well I just pulled the freaking dash board out and followed the wire from the driver side front parking light and the ground followed up from the bulb to the ICU. When I remove the bulb the ground is broken. when I replace the bulb the ground is back on. Now I have no way of checking the ICU. I can find my voltmeter to check resistances to see if it has a broken piece somewhere on the board. So I am gonna change the ICU today to see if thats it. If not then I am gonna change the kick panel fuse box totally with another one. I am off to the Yard now for the ICU and Kick Fuse panel. If its not that then I am gonna be really pissed.

I found the problem. I will attempt to post pictures with my friends camera phone to show those who else are having the problem. This wasnt a one time thing judging by the wires. It was being built up for some time now. You cant imagine what I found and how bad it was and the fact that this couldnt of happen in a short time like it did.

        Nice job man.
Do you think anything like this to a the cigerrete lighter could be a problem? My cig lighter doesn't work and there is no specific fuse for it, but 100% of my fuses are good. So I've been to lazy to check anything else.

Behind the radio are 2 plugs. One Grey plug that controls the dash Lights.cig lighter.the Vent controls and the dim light for the Radio. I also had to remove the fuse panel to cutt and splice the Grey clip for the ICU cause I had several wires heated together. Off the steering column I had 2 plugs one blue and one brown. The blue one had several wires fused together as well. Its 6:46 am and I just freaking finished getting the dash back together and about to hit the sheets. I had to complet most of it in the dark with a flash light and 2 spot lights. I had a fear that it was gonna rain heavy so I didnt want to be stuck doing it in the rain today even tho it drizzled a bit during the night. I never got a second to take freaking pics since the rush was on. At this point my hazards are still down but I know its the relay above the fuse panel cause it was not clicking but worked during my tests. I will change it later today if not tomorrow cause I am dead tired and it will rain heavy today. I am just happy I got my bumper, dash and steering wheel back together.

At this point no radio and no hazards but thats easy compared to hell. I cant imagine how guys on this site can take the cars apart and do the projects they do. I pray I dont have a wiring job again.

I just wanted to say If my buddy wasnt with me I couldnt of done it. That guy went thru hell with his wife staying out all night. It was the only funny points during the night. It came to about 6am before she decided to tell him he can come home. Out of of all the people I know it was the one guy that with the least car knowledge but wire knowledge came. We been friends for 3 years but never banged like that and did only side deals. What a true fucking friend and my Shit list of friends has gotten so much longer for all those I thought would show up but didnt.
