I have searched and read every single post or thread dealing with those that had a parking light problem and none helped to resolve my problem.
How it started.
For about 3 months I had no radio in my vehicle since someone broke in and stole the indash screen faceplate. I had since removed the headunit since no faceplate. I then inturn removed the EQ,Amps, speakers & cap. why have them in if not being used. During those 3 months I had a fog light burn out but since the C over here complain that my lights are too bright I never bothered to turn them on at all.
The Event
yesterday or day before we had alot of fog and I work until 1am in the morning so I needed my fog lights. So while in my flatbed I went out and grab a new 55 h3 bulb and placed it in the fog light.During that time I was like Fuck it and let me throw a radio so I can have some type of music while I drive her until I get a new system. So went to the back of the yard grab a headunit from one of the impound soon to be junked cars. Placed the bulb in the fog and wired in the radio.
1am hits and I took the car home and everything was fine until about 1 mile from my home and I mean ONE MILE. I had just passed the 1 mile marker and had less then 900 feet until my house or driveway. When I see my dash clock started flickering real bright and then regular about 5 times. I figured something was wrong so I cut the electric off and just let the motor run until I get home. As I approached my driveway my parking lights came on its own without me hitting a switch. I couldnt turn them off so I popped the hood and pulled the fuse. Its 2am now I cant starting troubleshooting in the dark. I will wait until the morning.
I get up plug the fuse in all the parking lights come on again. I figure let me run to my boys yard and grab a new signal switch and dim switch. I come home and replace all the switches. I put the bat cable back on the battery and the running lights come back on again. I then pull the signal switch off and one running light goes out and the others stay on. I figure it has to be a short in that one light. I then drop the bumper and remove the headlight to check the wire. Find that both the wires are grounds for some reason or another. I attempt to trace the wire back and reach the firewall. No breaks in line. I then proceed to check the signal relay. I pull it and nothing happens. I place it back and then the left signal comes solid even with the key not in the ignition. The other parking lights remained on the whole time.
I have now dropped the instrument bezel around the dash and removed the center column to attempt to locate the wire. Still no breaks. I check all the fuses again and replace for the sake or replacing them. Nothing changes. I then follow the dim switch wire(Red w/black stripe) back as far as I can still no breaks. The only thing i can think off is its directly behind the dash. I have no time in pulling the dash since I cannot drive a flatbed with my Youngest to school. No carseat will fit and the school doesnt allow truck on premises since have the area is a college, so must use the car. I can only think of now sending it to the dealer but they quoted me @ 120 a hour and the min is 2 1/2 hours. FUCKing CROOKS but I cant even drive the car now since my running lights stay on and the left signal remains on.
Anyone face this type of problem before?????
