Headlights On=Head Unit Off

So, my brother bought a 1991 Geo Prizm for 200 bucks and is putting a Sony X-Plode deck into it.
I had it all wired up... and it turns on, but when you turn the headlights on the deck turns off, then you turn the headlights off and it turns back on. It is getting both Constant and Switched power to the right place.
So... What the fuck?

what wire did you ground to? sounds like you got the illumination. you have to go straight to metal on those there is not ground wire in the factory harness

double check the wiring... The headlights are in no way related to the stereo. Something is fishy...

as 2.2litrebeater says..... Sounds like something's hooked up to the illuminate wire, and isn't supposed to.

the Illum. wire dims the radio (on some radios) when the headlights are turned on.

You have it wired to the dimmer wire by mistake, check these 3 wires - constant, ignition switched and your ground. Check all of them while you have your lights on, 100% positive that you have one wired wrong
