Are the alpines 4 ohm single voice coil, or dual voice coil?? If they are dvc, then I only know of 2 ways to wire them, and u will either have a 4 ohm load or a 1 ohm load on the 1 channel amp. If single 4 ohm voice coil subs, then you will have a 2 ohm load on the amp.
But Alpine, IMO, are damn good subs

Also really depends on the amp, 4channel, 2channel or monoblock! I run a 2channel, I would consider a monoblock, just because the design is better for subs! Most dont heat up as bad as my 851S! But the 851S is made more for heavy speakers not so much subs!

thanks for all the help so far guys...they have them in 4 ohm dvc and 2 ohm dvc...i figure i just get 1 2 ohm alpine for right now and wire it in series to make it a 4 ohm load...which on my amp runs at 500 rms at 4 ohm...perfectly match with the sub...then when i get the second sub...i will wire them together in a series to make it a 2 ohm load...which my amp runs at 1000 at 2 ohm...500 rms each subs.....give me a yeah or neh on that......

From what I remember hifonics are known for running a little low on power and running a little more power to a sub never hurt the sub as long as you set your gains properly. I would get the dual 4s and wire the first one to 2 ohms and the second to make total load of 1 ohm. Imo I prefer using the amps to the fullest potential if you can. Headroom is a great thing... In other words it allows for less distortion if you are only pushing just enough power instead of the the full tilt, but you can always have that full tilt on tap in case you decide you want to compete spl or you realize that all the amp is really doing is 1100 watts and the subs are taking it fine, but then again... I don't pay attention to rms ratings much anymore. I get a couple of amps and say ok what is the most I can get out of this thing and then tune accordingly

as far as matching the subs with the correct power, u should be str8. 500 watts to any sub capable of handling that (with the right box), and you'll be very satisfied, but I thought if u ran the subs in series, you're actually doubling the ohm load, and if u ran the subs in parallel, then you're actually cutting the ohm load in half (like bridging your subs)

I use JLaudio and it says 2 2ohm sub in a series will be a 2ohm load...but yeah i will probably do the 1 ohm load then...the alpine are 1500 max(i know never pay attention to the max rating) but i think they would probably take more then 500 rms..and plus i bet the amp wont run at much rms at 1ohm anyways...

to be honest, you really don't even need that much power to be satisfied with the sound of a type R (I would recommend a slot ported, or vented box). even though it says 1500w peak, u gotta remember that only a max of 500w rms is recommended. U don't wanna over-do it wit the subs. If u plan on runnin 1 ohm, wire the dvc's so both of them are wired @ 2 ohms each. then wire them to the amp jus like you were bridging a 2 ch amp. u should b str8 then

I mean i looked at JLaudio's website for the wiring diagram...yeah but thats what im saying im gonna buy 2 2ohm dvc sub and wire them series/paralled to make it a 2ohm load...im going with alpine type r...im gonna go 2 ohm just so i dont have any overheating issues..and plus i dont want to be pushing my amp or subs...im sure 1000rms is more then enough for me...
