lightweight subs problem solved = Infinity Bass link

ok..so we decided the bass tube was too crappy...with low SQ but it is lightweight....
2 alpine 10'' type e's wont provide good sound quality either an no bump..

so now im thinking the problem to my lightweight subs is teh infinity bass link... infinity makes good SQ speakers...and this configuration has the amp built in..it can be mounted vertically or horizontally..the only question i have now..is how much do these things wiegh??.. i know they wiegh more than a bass tube...but wiegh less than my type R 12'' and rock fosgate 800 x 2... im sure it will provide tighter bass designed for SQ in mind...

i think im gonna mount it behind the middle console behind the front seats..for good weight distrobution..

what do you gyys think?....well im thinking good SQ..lightweight..and can be muonted anywhere...the only question i really have..is how much do they wiegh..and which infinity bass link to get..i think they have 4 different models....

i think that you just need to rethink the entire situation and not compromise with something that you wont be ultimately happy with...if you want a lightweight racecar, then dontn get subs at all, but if you must have subs, dont put them in ur light car...makes sense dont you think...

I fully agree. It's an oxymoron to want something that doesn't add much weight. What's difference is 20lbs going to make on a car that is driven everyday? 0.002 seconds off the 1/4th or something?

The other 2 guys have a point.

If you do end up putting it in, I know for a fact they sound pretty good. If you want head stomping ear crushing bass, they aren't for you, but if you want clean tight response and good SQ over SPL, they aren't bad at all. If you have a Mitsu dealer nearby go check one out in a Lancer Ralliart. It is a dealer installed option.

Don't know how much they weigh, but my guess is around 30lbs or so.

You will also want to mount it in the trunk. Much better Sound quality, and it will actually help the SPL too, because the trunk is a good resonance chamber. Plus, the weight distribution on your car is like 61% F 29% rear. Having the weight in back might actually help handling balance slightly.

            point im trying to make

-ok i see we have different modes of thinking here....

-first off...im all about sound quality...so f*ck SPL! (im all about focal utopias...n fiberglass kickpanels for proper soundstaging)

-i never said i want rockem sockem bass..i just want something that can reproduce the low end very accurately

-weight is an issue...i think if you lined up two cars stock...one had two JL Audio w7's in the back...and the other had a bass tube..theoretically the one with the bass tube would win..brake better..and have better gas mileage...(like i said..every pound counts)

-1 alpine type r with an 800 x 2 fosgate amp is to much bass...i think im more mature now and dont need 15''s in the trunk to get girls...

-so you see here guys...music is a necessity..just like food and pussy...you dont have to get pussy everyday...but maybe 10 times out of the month is a good amount....

-i dont know where im not making my self clear....

I get what you are saying, because I am the same way. Most people who mention subs are talking about SPL though, so I just generally approach it from that angle. Usually the measure of a stereo system is how loud it is. With me, it is how "inside" the music you are. When I crank my Bon Jovi I want to feel like I am at the concert.

That is why I think the Basslink would actually be a good thing for you. It also won't kill your trunk space. Go see if you can find a Lancer with one installed, I think you will be happy.

I mentioned the weight distribution thing because you did. It will help if anything, and it only weighs about 30lbs which works out to 1% of your total weight. Yes it will have an adverse impact, but not noticably.

Music is like sex, it ain't all loud, it ain't all good, but if you can have both Lord ole mercy!!

saving 20lbs isn't going to get you much. You're not going to brake better, handle better, accelerate better, etc to the point where it is noticeable. Think about the impact if you had a passenger instead. That would throw off more than a small weight difference in audio setup. You're being too paranoid about a mesely 20lbs or so. Unless your car is a full racing car, I doubt you'll need to care for 20lbs (maybe less) that much. You're not going to turn to the full capability of your suspension, nor brake 100% everytime. When you do need to brake, that 20lbs is unsignificant. There will be other factors that will ultimately overcome that 20lbs. If you really care about weight that much, strip your interior all the way. Every pound counts right?

Even if the dude has 2 w7, and you have a bass tube, there are other factors such as the driver's weight, etc. If you do indeed race, the only time you'll see a difference in speed is if you're going for a 3445 mile stretch. In a short distance race, the difference is hardly there.

I say just go for it. Get what sounds best to you. Worry less about weight (until it puts on over 150lbs more) and worry more of what you want as far as sound.

Do you build your own box? If so, get baltic birch plywood and make a small box for a single 10" (within spec of course). That will rival the infinity basslink. The infinity basslink is about 20lbs.

Get a 10" sub (like the IDv3, which weighs about 10lbs), built a small box for it (about 10lbs), and add in the amp, which is about another 10-15lbs.

Now do the math and think how much weight you're giong to save with the infinity. Now will that 10-15lbs make a day and night difference in your everyday driving? I hope you're better than that..

bass has nothing to do with maturity..i know more than one guy over 30 who has 2 12" RE XXX subs, and if you know anything about them, you will know that they are SPL monsters, and their SQ is phenomenal for a sub that can pound out that kind of SPL....not everyone who has a system wants ground shakin bass...some more sophisticated people like it cause they want to hear all of their music...im not gonna lie, i listen to classical in my setup, and it sounds just about perfect..
