quick question on an amp.....yes or no?

    hello...

i want to just do a quick and cheap upgrade to my '93 accord's rear speakers and stock radio.......i'm leaving the front speakers as is.....

is it enough to just have a plain jane cd/fm radio install with 6" speakers in the rear to get good sound quality or do i have to get an amp?

does the cd/radio have enough power to give me some nice sound all around, particular the 6" speakers in the rear....

i know less than nothing about this and i'm getting mixed opinions from friends....

i don't need a killer sound system, just want a cheap upgrade to the stock stuff....but i also dont want the 6" speakers to go to waste in the rear because i don't have an amp....

(and cheap i mean a pioneer deh-1700 for $90 and a pair of 6x9 pioneer speakers in the rear for $100...found also a basic alpine 4ch amp at bestbuy for $200....but again, not sure if necessary)...

    thanks....

basically... if you want a little better sound, an amp would help you out, its not neccasary but you do benefit... i personally wouldn't spend the money on amp for the speakers unless you were running some subs and stuff like that... but thats just my opinion

could always get an amp later on.....

by the sounds of it your just doing a basic system, i wouldnt use an amp espically since that deck will only have 1 set of preouts. also why are you going to change the rear speakers instead of the front, youll get better sq out of front speakers.

well if your putting 6X9s in the rear for 100 i can guarentee you that the deck wont power them fully 22 RMS of wattage just wont cut it for me but a cheap lil 100 dollar 50 RMS X 2 amp for your 6X9s that will really sound good and you will get good bass off it for a lil price, go for it man

yeah, don't worry about the rear speakers...the front is where you need to concentrate! if you set your sound stage correctly up front, it will be a much better overall sound in your car, especially for the most important person in that car...YOU!

in reality..most cars dont even need rear speakers, the car manufacturers just put them in there so that if you turn on the radio while test driving, that your wife or w/e in the back seat has something to listen to...ideally, you would get an entire stereo system eventually, and you would most likely drop your rear fill...its pointless if you have the sound stage up front set up correctly...but yeah, onto the simple stuff...dont amplify the rear speakers only, worry about the front speakers first..

i disagree you NEED the rear speakers, yea the front are important but to feel that ALL AROUND sound like you are surrounded by music, the back are just as important
                AMP IT ALL!!!!

you are severely misinformed pal ...look at most people's high-end audio systems...definitely missing the rear stage..its not necessary...the front speakers, when mounted properly and when the tweets are mounted properly, there is no need to have any acoustic device behind the driver's head..i mentioned above that the ONLY need for rear speakers is for the rear passengers..
if the front speaker pods are properly tuned and mounted correctly, they will directly face the driver of the vehicle and the front seat passenger...if you have a speaker pointed directly at your head, do you need another speaker back there, pounding up at your rear window?
                  umm...no...why would you need that?

in your car, since you act so experienced...do you have pods to mount your comps in? or do you use the stock mounts? if you use the stock mounts, sure, have a rear fill speaker, but if not, then shove rear speakers, all they do is cost mre money, and drain more power from your amplifier...

hmm.....better speakers in front, amplified, does make sense....

                    ok....

since my rears are crackly and i do want better speakers than my stocks, i think i'll move the front 6x9s, which are fine, to the rear and get a new decent pair of 6x9 (alpines, infinity, polk, etc @ $100) in the front....

as for the amp, i'll probably hold off....but i'll keep looking for the cheapest 2ch one i can find to hook up to the fronts, since it sounds like the rears don't need it....

                    thanks all for the info

o btw even if u mount the speakers correctly in the front, it still won;t sound nearly as good as correctly mounted speakers in the rear....u want to make sure they all are mounted to a extent that the sound frequencies do not cancel each other out. u could have the front all decked out and it could sound good but having the rear decked out as well is ideal...and yes the high end audio systems have the rear decked out, no wait they don;t bc they have like custom made speakers that wrap around your head to give u the surround sound lol........go to one car show and take a look at the audio setups, the front is just as important as the back, and in some cases, the fornt is as important as the rear and top and bottom and outside the car lol......go to one show then u will c what it is all about....

btw, i would get an amp, the deck will not be able to power the speakers enough to get the best sound possible. all u need is a cheap amp anyway only need like 200 rms amp (150-200 at best buy) that is if u do not get subs later on

just for future reference...you want to get a picture of some of these speakers that "wrap around your head?" cause im not understanding this concept that you have presented..
anyways...if you want rear fill, go ahead, its not a bad thing, however, dealing with limited resources, its better to concentrate on the fronts
                          take my setup for instance...

i have Eclipse Point Source 6.5" speakers up front...very nice
however, in the rear, i just have regular Eclipse 6x9 speakers..mediocre, merely for backseat passengers, cause i have a sedan..

although i believe that you have seen that it makes sense to pamper the driver's ear first, rather than the passengers...after all, whose car is it, and who spends the most time in there?

                            so....two different views here

first and foremost, again, i want to be a bit cheap here as this is just a second used car that i'm using primarily for driving to and from the train station 5mi away....

(although paying $3k for a rust free 50k mi accord is like a "new" car)

                            pricing....

                            Polk 6x9s in the front (model# db650) @ $100
Move fronts to the rear $0
                            Sony CD/FM/MP3 (model# cdx-gt200) @ $120
                            * Total @220

if i get Polks for the rear and a decent 4ch amp.....that's prob another $350...and then i'll want a subwoofer....hmm.....

                            so, it's $220 or $550-$650.....

first you cant fit 6x9s in the front you might be able to squise in 6.5 but for ease of install you will have to get 5.25 (im asuming you have the same cb7 the rest of us have) second from expirience if your looking in to a cheep deck from best buy go with the pioneer, sony decks are noturiosly cheep in the building of their car audio producs and unless your geting the extended waranty don't expect that sony deck to last you past a year with out some kind of problem ...

In Need of an engine, just a basic f22a...pm me if you have one willing to part with.
