hard to fit 6.5inch speakers in the front?

Is it really that hard to fit 6.5inch speakers in the front with a 92 ex? What all do you have to do?
    Thanks

i would say 6.5 are a stretch. I had to do quite a bit of trimming to fit in 5.25s. open up your door to take a look, as it seems there are quite a few stock oem speaker sizes

i actually run 6.5 in the front of my EX. First off I ditched the ex 4inch speaker pods and picked up some DX/LX pods at the yard. I then cut out the back of the pod, leaving only the circular rim. I then used this to mount the speakers to the door, giving it a spacer effect with all stock mounting points. Just find a secure way to mount the speaker to the pod rim and you should get it. Im sure once ur in there, you can think of something. Im runnin Audiobahn 6.5 3 way speakers btw and the magnet clears the door and the speaker clears the panel. hope this helps Lude

just did the speaker install yesterday. i got polk db650s and they dropped right into honda speaker baskets and then the doors of my 91 ex. didn't have to cut the backs out of the baskets either (better protection from water). if anything, you just have to make a spacer of the appropriate thickness to add aftermarket speakers. thick enough to keep the magnet away from the lowered glass but not too far out that it hits the door panel. trace out the shape of the basket and screw holes onto MDF or some other wood substrate and then cut them out.

I just got rid of the pod all together and bolted the speakers to the metal frame, they still fit under the door panel without any modding windows fully roll down and I don't get an excess vibration from them.

This would be the way to do it, if you ask me. BTW, I don't see how cutting the basket/pod will get water in the back of the speaker since there are already slit openings back there. Also, if you mount the speaker to the frame and did not use the bracket, I hope you got that bitch on there extra tight. I tried that before and it would bang in between the door panel and the door when I drive because the screws came loose.

Couldn't of been done without you guys

i'm using alpine 6.5s up front but they came with universal mounting plates. you're supposed to remove the plastic baffle or else the speakers will stick too far out for the panel to close over them. i'm not sure if other aftermarket speakers come with mounting plates, but if not, mount the 6.5s on the door frame w/o the plastic baffle. only reason why those baffles are there is to help improve sound on those weak OEM speakers.

ive fitted 6.5" speakers in the front and rear of my 91 EXI....fronts needed a lil wooden frame built around them...was a very tight squeeze luckily the windows still went up and down fine.

The rears i just cut away the surroundings a few cm with a lil circuit board chopping thing...it overheated a few times haha

trimed away this and it fitted in snuggly

my stock speakers were a joke!!!

                completely corroded and destroyed

its easy to fit em in the front. u can put a small spacer or even ghetto washers behind the speaker to space it from the window and you are fine.

sometimes when u buy speakers they have a mounting plate that you can use, OR you can get the little plastic ring on top if the new speaker, pull it off and put that piece in the back of the speaker and use that as a spacer.

one thing i found that wouldnt fit, is the infinity kappa speakers in the front.

oh i went from a 4'' to a 6.5 with no issues at all and about 30 mintues.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

I decided on keeping the bucket when upgrading those speakers (LX same size), b/c of the concern for moisture. Otherwise, I was tempted to cut it out, to see if that opened them up sonically.

I have a 93 lx wagon and I went a little bit out of the way. I have the CDT's 6.5 which that magnet is nice and deep. so I had to get some spacers and mod the pod a little but it all worked out in the end so far. I 'll show some pics here soon I hope. Have anysites that I can post pics off of? Email me if so!
