keyless entry in my fiance's mercury... HELP

Hey all, I got a keyless entry system for my fiance's 92 mercury grand marquis in the mail about a week ago. I am lost as to how to wire it up. I mounted it, gave it a constant 12+ and a gorund, and I programed the remotes that it came with. I then used a test light to see if it works, (took negative wire from unit and +12 test wire) and it does (button pused on remote and light goes on). The only wires that I have left to wire up (besides the constant + and the ground I already did) are a - signal wire for the lock and a - signal wire for the unlock. This is a very basic system and I dont know how it hooks up. I wired them temporarily to corrosponding - wires in the door lock switch unit thing (actually in the door arm rest) and nothing. I dont know how sending additional - current to an already - line will make anything happen anyway. I hope that I make some sense and that someone can help me.

    Thanks!

Unless your fiance's car was equipped from the factory with keyless entry which it doesn't sound like it was obviously, you will need relays to drive the lock and unlock wires. You need to five wire the Pink/green and Pink/yellow wires found in the driver's kick panel. Basically this means that the signal wires coming off your keyless system will be be hooked to separate relays that will split each wire and isolate the switch side and send 12 volts to the motor side of the wires.

reversing polarity, it sucks. youll have to cut the lock wire and put a relay in line, same with the unlock wire.
hopefully this will help go to the12volt.com for more info

So all I have to do is put this in line with the unlock and lock wires? I dont have to make any other alterations to the current setup? In the diagram, it says to run to fused 12+, do I fuse this into something existing, or do I gotta get a seperate line with in-line fuse?

When I had the alarm installed on my car, they did not need to make any changes because they said I already had power locks. I thought that this would be the same for the grand mark. Is it possible that there already are a set of these relays in line somewhere and I cant find them? Where would I start to look to find out?

Sorry, I know nothing electrical outside of the radio. Any more info you could get for me somewhere or post for me would be very helpful.

Thanks guys! I can always count on yall for help.

Oh, and where would I go about getting one of these relays anyway...

It all seemed like an easy thing at the time. With the new baby, I thought that it would be nice for my fiance to have easy access to the car. I got a $30 keyless system on ebay, and now its a big headache.

if its reverse polarity (5 wire system) its pretty easy...but id use a 451m from DEI. its basically 2 relays in one and very simplified...cut the wire in half and have one end goes to the motor side and one goes to the switch side.

if you want to test if its a 5 wire system, grab a wire wiht a fused 12v line and tag it....hit the switch...if it shorts it may be a 5 wire system...if it doesnt then you are fine but you still may need a relay for the alarm lock and unlock.

how many wires are in the door area? perhaps you have to go somewhere else for those wires, most cars you dont go into the door for the lock and unlock due to they are controlled by something else.

id never buy anything from ebay especially an alarm, all the work you are doing, and a month or so later it will go bad...hehe prestige now a days is only 50 bucks to 100 bucks id rather pay more to get one of those.

Well, it was hard to tell how many wires were for the door switch becuase it was custered with the window controlls, but to me, it looked like there was a black + and the 2 - wires, one for lock and one for unlock. I just went to the door switch because I wanted easy to access test wires to see if I had the right wires before I tore apart the dash.

good call on the 451m, i forgot about it, makes it so easy. you can get relays at autozone or radioshack. for the 12v just run it to the 12v from the ignition harness and put a fuse inline.

hehe i got 8 451m's sitting at work right now =) i love those things!

do you want a text off on your car dude? i can get it for you and post it if you want...sometimes colors in the door switch are differnt than whats in the car, haha 5% of the time, but you would of saved time if you had a text off and didnt have to rip apart the door.
