    Bad Alternator !! Need Help!!

well this is the most frustrating part of having my car..so far everything is good after getting my bad alternator replaced by a 2nd hand alternator( i was desperate and broke!) at least 2 years ago...now its giving up again...the battery wont charge, when im slowing down and put my signal lights on between 1000-2000 range my tach and speedo's hand goes up and down as the signal lights function.. and also noticed that my lights are getting dimmer when i get stuck on a top light which is fucked up cuz i need my car to go to work! so yeah one question for you guys! whats d highest alternator output i can get? i wanna get the alternator that can supply the most power because my uncle is getting rid of his good bumping system and im buying it off of him for my car..THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE !!

im sure someone on here will sell you one of their alternators laying around from a swap or something.. mine did the same thing as you man. this was when i was picking up my car from the guy who did my bodywork.. i started driving home and the gauges were going nuts! so it's definitely your alternator.

just search for one on here, i'm sure someone will help you out!

I have one that i know works well. Pm me. Or if you have an audio system go on ebay and get a performance one. They are only about $200 after shipping.

well if u are gonna have a big system and eventually gonna get ignition system and whatnot, get at least 120, i think 160 would be the best bet. that is what i have running my 5000W+ system, neons, and ignition system and everyone is fine. more than 160 may be alittle sketchy. i would think all that power could damage something. the shop that installed my alternator said the more output the alternator the better chnace u have of having problems down the road. just get what u need to power what u have leave some room for other accessories.

Whoever told you having an alternator capable of supplying higher than 160 amperes is bad, was definitely blitzed or something. If the voltage regulator is doing its job properly, having an alternator capable of supplying 100, 200, or 900 (if it existed) amps is fine. It's fundamentals of electricity. Say, your alternator is pushing out 18VDC. Now, that would be bad. Amps are only drawn by the circuit(s) as needed (and are in direct proportion to the amount of volts supplied and the resistance of the circuit). For this exact reason, you can grab car battery terminals with your bare hands and not feel a thing. I will never cease to be suprised (and amused) by the amount of people that are actually afraid of doing that.

THANKS FOR D ADVICE GUYS !! IM GOING TO PM YOU GUYS WHO TOLD ME O PM YOU ABOUT D ALTERNATOR!! i called the local shops that repair alternators but i'd rather go for a new ones since theres almost a small difference on pricing between the new one (not the high output ones) and a refurbished ones... why spend cheaper if you know it'll give up on you sooner or later? that makes a bigger hole on your pocket..so ima go with the new ones..but yeah im going to have to sacrifice and take d bus for at least 3 weeks to save up for it and for the installation and labor...THANKS AGAIN GUYS !

Same thing happened here with the alternator. Best way is just test the alternator with a amp meter or if you dont have one start the car then disconnect the battery terminals if it still runs its a bad battery if it dies out then you've got a bad alternator, or give it gas in nuetral with lights on if the lights get brighter with high rpms then its def. the battery. I bought an original honda alternator with like 60k on it for 30 bucks on ebay works great. good luck
