New amp on its way...how to mount?

I'm excited. Quick question though- the back seat is metal; how do people mount amps?

usually there are places on the side where you can insert the screws....but i know if you look at someones post about how they mounted their amp in a new way you can see fairly clearly how the amps mount..

ill see if i can find that thread for you..

    EDIT: found it... http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...ght=mount+amps

get some self tapper screws from home depot, makes it easy to get through that metal on the seat.

Yes, get the self tappers, they work well. But, use them to mount a piece of plywood to the seat, then mount your amps to the wood.

The chassis of your amp is grounded, if you mount the metal chassis to the frame of your car you can cause a ground loop, which causes the 'whining' noise in some stereos.

With the back seat up, I traced the opening of the trunk on to it. Then plopped it down and measured for the wood. To make it look pretty you could carpet the wood.

There is a beam down the center of the seat, then some framing that comes close to the trunk outline. Good places to mount. I think I used 1" screws, depends on the thickness of the wood though.

And don't go nuts on torquing the screws down. The metal frame of the seat is pretty thin, though strong enough to hold the amps, you can strip it out with a driver pretty easily.

Plus, if you use the wood, you can mount your amps, wiring, relays, etc. anyway you want. Otherwise you're stuck with where ever you can find enough metal to put these things.
