a new way to mount amps in the trunks

hey well, i got my amps, subs, wires, and two F's and it takes up alot of room, and i didn't feel like mounting the amps to the sub box like i did last time or to the back of the seats. i thought by taking some good old cheap wood from lowes, and some spray paint i could make something look interesting or maybe pretty or cool , all i did was cut the woood to my desire size, (don't use a chain saw like i did, to hard to make a straight line) and then spray painted it blue, to try and match the outside color, its just something new, & i just wanted to show it to everyone, maybe someone might see it and take it to a new level or say it sucks some hairy balls lol, oh well enjoy the pics in the link is a better pic and i have a different amp the silver one is for sale if anyone wants it

you should drill holes under the amps or near the caps and pass the wiring through so the mess is on the other side of the board, out of sight. it would look 10x cleaner
this is what i did on my mustang, no board but you get the idea, hiding the wires looks sweet!

I can't tell from the pic what he did, and I can't get into the gallery. I'd say carpet it and hide the wires though.

looks very messy.....you should of just screwed the amps right to the back of the seat with self tappers....i dont think the blue wood gos good at all. and you could of hid all the wires in the back of the seat. just my 2 cents.

come on dudes...give him some credit, he is learning. what i would do if i were u is drill holes so that the wires run behind the wood and not in front, then space the wood with a 1'' spacer from the rear seat to let the wires lay behind there and not get pinched.

i think that would be really cleaner.

if it was me, id put wood between the seat and the outer layer of carpet for the back seat and then mount the amps. this way its hidden and it looks nice and cleaner.

but i do have the mounts in the upper end of the trunk where the speakers lay so its all good for me.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

mounting the board to the back of the seat, that sounds like a good idea, i never thought about it, one thing thats nice with the board is when i go on vaction everything is on the board and it all jsut comes, out, today was my last day of school and now i got time im going to drill holes and make it look CLEAN!!! as soon as i get it cleaned up i;ll put up a new pic and yeah im still learning new stuff,

Mounting the amps to a board then the board to the seat is the way to go. If you mount the amps directly to the seat frame you will cause a ground to be made from the casing of the amp to the chassis.

Ground loop, it's what causes the whining in the stereo that matches your RPMs.

I suppose you could have carpeted the board, but what the heck, nobody sees it. I did this a few years ago and just left the raw wood.

Oh yeah, as a general note, don't mount your amps under the rear deck. You will also have the ground loop situation and the amps won't be able to cool properly. They don't like to be held upside down. Right-side up or sideways with the vanes up and down are good.

hehe what do u mean!! yeah its not the way to go, i got an audiobahn with a fan so it helps but its not the most effficient way to mount an amp.

it has been done for years but it is cool you did it yourself. I personally have my subs facing the rear of the car so my amp is mounted in a custom rack (did it myself) that goes behind the sub box and when you fold down the seat you see it. It is nice and clean also as it is actually part of the subb box but no screws go into the actual back plate of the box

and please tell me you DO NOT have a capacitor on your mids and highs amp.

Actually, no caps at all. I'm putting something like 1,500-1,600 watts out and so far so good. Then again, I'm only putting 400 or so into my sub.

I also pointed my sub to the back, works well. I cheated with the amp though, just screwed it into the enclosure.

I was talking to that food monster guy. He has 2 caps and it looks like one is on his mids and highs amp.

Anyways, mounting your amps upsode down will cause them to not ventilate properly and will go into protection mode or eventually overheat. Even the audiobahn with the fan is not gonna do anygood cause all the heat it is blowing out is rising right back up to the amp. Try putting the amp in another spot where it is ventilating right ztech and you will notice a HUGE difference in sound quality.
