Acura TL Subwoofer Style Custom Fabrication

I just thought of an awesome idea..has anyone tried to fabricate a subwoofer just like the way it is in an Acura TL so that it can sit in between the two rear speakers? That would be pretty awesome because it would be right with the speakers and not in the trunk which could save trunk space as well as give a nice clear bass.

I came across this link of a Civic guy who did the DIY. http://www.caraudioforum.com/showthread.php?t=345475

I like the idea, but if it was me I'd use an open baffle sub, and I'd make a grille for that sub to make it look more oem
sold! But here's my build thread for those interested.

You'd need a strong mounting baffle and a way to seal the trunk off for best performance.

I would have them firing at the back seat

Trying to figure out how to get an 18" there. The efficiency/response would be crazy and it would be pretty light. But 15s would let me use the metal behind the back seat as a brace. If it works I may work with my woodworking buddy to start selling kits

They have 18" car subs these days? I've been out of audio for so long.

I always thought once you got past 12" you just ended up in the "noise" category rather than response. The rule of thumb I always heard was 10" was good for rock/pop and 12" was good for rap / hip hop. I'm sure technology has come a long way since I bought my subwoofers back in 2002.

You would need to basically need to fabricate a whole new steel package tray and weld it in to make it strong enough. Then fabricate a new way to hold up the trunk lid. Not really worth the effort.

Yeah , I looked at the rear deck & checked out the frame for it. Looks like a real PITA to fabricate that. I just thought it would look pretty cool & sound good in our CBs!
