have to have back seat down to hear subwoofer?

So for some reason in my 91 accord lx it seems I have to have the back seat down to hear my sub. And it pounds good enough to not be annoying loud. So its not that I have a quiet sub or anything. But as soon as I put my back seat up I can barely hear it. Is this normal. I know there will be some sound deadening but I didn't think it would be to this degree. Any ideas on how I can solve this issue without rolling around like a goon with my back seat down? Do I just need a louder sub?

What setup are you running? Sub, amp... Ive had several systems and I've never had a hard time hearing them at all, and I'm mostly deaf.

Is the sub facing to the front or the rear? Be sure to face it to the rear if you want to have the seat up. Its all about resonating of course. & does your box have port holes (setup)?

          Crappy Stereo??

Bass is bass. It travels like crazy, think about when your in your house and someone drive by, you hear it clear as day.

I don`t think you should have any problems hearing your system seat up or down.

Try hooking up a amp instead of running off your rear speakers?

correct you should be able to hear it only thing putting the seat down will gain is a more pronounced sound. seeing how the bass waves do not have to travel through the seat before they get to your ear's.

I hate it when someone double posts and everyone tries to help only to have the Op not respond. I feel like there's no respect for the people trying to help him. ex: everyone in this thread. Amen for beginner section at least.

When my head unit is at 40% i can feel my hair bounce from the bass. Something else is wrong. Either the gain isn't turned up enough or he wires the bass into the same channel as the speakers and he has no good eq'ing for the sub.
It really is a labor of love making a neglected CB7 with "normal wear and tear" into something worth being proud of.
