    Amp install under seat

This is not a how or why.
But I'm tired of thugs snatching my amp. I like it under the passenger seat.

To the question. If I drill 4 holes and mount it with washers and nuts. Is there anything under the car I need to worry about hitting. Ie fuel lines and etc

    Thanks

    Steve

I do have an alarm. But i don't always use it.

you would need to carefully look under the car. personally, i would use the course side of vecro to stick it to the carpet and start using your alarm religiously.

Thanks. The Velcro is a good idea. I guess I'll just drill carefully.

Your amp will most likely overheat under the seat and youre going to hav problem other than thieves.

highly unlikely....we install amps under seats almost daily....thats not really a problem. if you were running incorrect impedence and running the amp super hot it may shut down by going into thermal protection....thats about it.

Do you have an alarm? 2 way pager is great. You could beat the crap out of them while they are trying to take your stuffs.
How would they know you have a system? Does this happens in your neighborhood? Turn the volume down before you park. They won't risk getting caught unless they know for sure you got sound in the trunk.
Did you bolt your stuffs down with security bits? If you did then they must have had time to take them.
Depends on what you have, under the seat is much less air flow than in the trunk. It might over heat.

So you all think that my amp under my seat right next to the ac vent will run the risk of overheating? More so than if it was in the non climate controlled trunk?

I'm not a teenager who listens to my system loud. I have an 8 in a box and an amp. I just want a little more bass than my 6 1/2 infinity will provide.

              Thanks for the help

If you have a coupe, you can make a bracket and install in the interior quarter panel, then it is harder to see and harder to take out.

No Problem Rich. and thanks I did have one under the seat for about 3 years with no problems. Recently somebody broke in and took my radio and amp. Funny ironic thing is I wanted a new head unit bc the old one wouldn't charge my Iphone. The problem is Not that they stole the amp alpine 450 and alpine head unit. But the fact they jacked the lock out and screwed up the door handle.
I will try and bolt this down this weekend. And I will prob set the alarm more.

In that case put the amp under the seat. If you get one of those old school amps, it's real heavy with low watt per channel. It's heavy b/c of the bigger heatsink. If it over heat, you could put a relay in with the fan. I have a fan in my trunk which I put in during the summer. Keep every running real cool. I got an MTX 4160 and Phoenix Gold in the trunk, and it gets over 100F in the trunk. I have a 12" fan wire to the relay and it runs when the amps turn on and it keep it just warm to the touch. With out the fan, I could burn my hand touching the amps, particularly the MTX amp. Another thing to note is if the sinks get hot, mean heat is transferred to the sinks so that's good. This is why many amps are real hot to the touch but don't clip. When you mount the amp, it has some venting holes below, raise if off the floor a little for better air flow.

Cool thanks for the input. I may put some spacers below it so it's has airflow under it.
There is the floor vent that is under the passenger seat and on hot days I run the ac on vent and floor.
I wouldn't have thought of lifting it off the carpet though.

                          Thanks

I use the anti fatique mat I buy from Harbor Freight to lift them off the box I mount it on and it also cushion the amp from vibration. They sell 4 gigantic pieces for like $8. You would have to remove the seat for easy installation.
