    Installing Alpine SPS-170A

hey everyone, i have a 91 accord exr which had stock 4'' speakers in the front, until i replaced them with premier 4'' ones. now, i want to get 6.5'' alpine SPS-170A for the fronts, but im wondering if they will fit (width wise), because the 91's came with the 4'' enclosers. so, if i take out the encloser and put the 6.5's in instead will the speaker hit the window?, or give enough room inside the door. im just asking if anyone has installed these on their 91 accord with the original 4'' stock speakers. thanks

i have the same speakers and they will NOT hit the window. you do have to remove the plastic baffless that the factory speakers sit on, but the Alpine speakers will have universal mounting plates for easy installation.

What he said. I have the same speakers too. They come with the plates so dont worry about it. They sound awesome by the way

I have a 91 accord lx sedan and i just bought the Alpine SPS-170A speakers on ebay. Will i be able to mount them without the mounting plate? Also crutchfield says that my car has 6.5 inch speakers all around. Is this true?

they lie, it said the same thing about my 91 ex-r, but if u take of the door panel, ull find 4'' speakers in a plastic factory made enclosure!!! (bastards)

and for those who did install thesee in their car....did u origionally have the 4'' speakers?!?!? and they didnt come with the spacers, so if u can find out, how many inches are they???? thanks

Mine were the 6.5 speakers and yeah, with these particular speakers I had to use the spacer. I had some Sonys before and I didnt have to have them. As for the depth, I have no idea. The EX and SE models had the 6x9 pods in the rear. I scored some at the junk yard. They werent the same color so I used some grey vinyl/plastic paint and changed the color. Looks factory. Oh and if you're wondering, the 6x9's fit perfectly in the pods without and modification or spacers. As I said before, these speakers rock!! I have had several people ask what I had in the trunk cause they thought I had subs runnin.

What do the spacers do exactly? I know they create space but where? Behind the magnet? On the sides? Do i absolutely need them?

Nah dude, around the speaker itself where the screws go in. If i remember right, I had to use the spacers cause for some reason without them the holes didnt line up plus it was hitting the window or something inside the door. The speakers should come with the spacers. If not, you might have to make a minor modification but should be able to get them in no problem.

Ok cool. I got the speakers hella cheap ($30) so i dont mind if i need to make minor modifications. Also hows the sound compared to stock? Hows the bass?
