here's the deal. i plan on getting money or something from friends and family for xmas. i want to put most of it into pimpin out my system. im looking for sound quality with decent bass. im not looking for subs or anything in the trunk, just a nice HU and speakers all around. just need a few opinions on what sounds like what. i plan to be spending around $200-$300 total. also want to know which speakers need professional installation. otherwise i know perfectly well how to replace the stock ones.

Really, to get good sound (IMHO) you need to do the works.
Go with the sub, two amps (minimum), four new speakers and a HU.
But, if you're just going to do the HU/speakers, $300 might be a little short. I think with some good deals on eBay you could do it.
Figure a good HU new would be about $200, then a pair of good 5.25/6 up front is about $80 or so and a good set of 6x9 in the back is $100.
That's all new equipment and none of it really being rockstar quality but being good performers. I would pick a HU you can live with since that's where most of your time would be spent.
You can do the install yourself. If you're not going for the top end stuff, you'd just be replacing your stockers anyway.Bart: What's your name?
