The only thing "breaking in a sub" does is change the way it sounds over a period of time...any other side effect is bs.

well ive never heard that. i read this whole article once, i tried looking for it but cant seem to find it, but it was all about how physically, there is no effect. they say it'll loosen up the web inside the driver, but the web stiffens right up again once they stop playing. something along those lines.

            Wang?

Wanging on it eh? lol... Dem beats beat like mofo naw mean???

I too belive break in is false.. Some say it lossens the suspention to make for slightly further linear throw (xmax)... But u will have bigger sound fluctuations do to voltage fluctations (in most cars) then u would from break in period. Bassically no point...

If u wanna do, just for peace of mind go right ahead for it, it's ur stuff... But I will say that ur safe without it...

I would pay more attnetion to gain settings and distortion from driving the amp too hard causing it to clip.

Underpowering speakers is a bigger killer than over powering them.

lol, I blew a 12 type x in the first week, they replaced it, blew the second within another week, and they gave me a 12w1, no problems since. 12w1 for half the price...hahahh

This shit frys my brain, the type x was rated to 300w rms running at 300, and I blew two of them, the jl 12w1 is only rated to 150rms, and its handling 300w with no problem... wtf?

I believe in playing it hard right out of the box, just like you will be doing later, that way if there are any manufacturing flaws, they will show themselves within the warrenty period, and you can get a free replacement.

i obviously wasnt a type x, maybe type s?? because he would have been replacing that with a W7, not a W1. The type Xs take 500rms per voice coil, so 1000, not 300, lol.

Sorry, i got it mixed up they WERE NOT TYPE X, they were type E's, and last years model. Either way the type-e gave good bass till the voice-coil on each delaminated after a week.
