in that order... if you're lookin around 500 bucks, I'd reccomend the pioneer premier deh p8400mp/ deh p9600mp... they both pretty much have the same controls and all, but the 9600 has an upgraded display and an easy input for mp3 players.. they dont make the 8400 anymore, but there are lots of places that still have them, and pretty cheap..

if you're going with pioneer though, go Premier!!! everyone who thinks alpine is better then pioneers, has only herd the base model pioneers..

i got panasonic, not the best, but remote is real tiny, the blue display is pretty cool at night, i would have to say pioneer or alpine if i had to get another one

Nakamichi, Denon and Eclipse. End of story. The $200 Eclipse I got for my gf sounded better then anything else in the store (except the other Eclispses )

man if your looking to spend no more than $500 the pioneer 8600 is great i have it and i love it also its 24 bit compard to the alpines 8 bit the sound is alot better you have the output for te front, rear, and subs alos an imput for a tv or dvd player i love it and it has to many features that i dont even use lol

Eclipse (higher end)
Alpine (higher end)
Pioneer (P9)
Sony (CDX-C90)
Nackamichi (higher end)
Rockford Fosgate (8240/8250)

and also, the bits for the DAC does not really matter anymore

i got a pioneer DEHP6500 and its great. its got the adjustable eq, sub controles and anything else you need to tune your system. pioneer has always been my fav headunit

i got the deh p 6600. i love it. too many controls i don't know how to fix it. hahhahhaa. all good though. plus it got a mostfet amp bild in.

I'm a huge audiophile, Denon is the best you can get but I highly doubt you'll shell out the cash for that.
