Dude! Anything but alpine. Sure they have great head units, but their speakers are not up to par. IMO. I had them before.

You guys must have had the old swr-1241 subs. The SWR-1242D is an unbelieveable sounding woofer. And those things can hammer your face off if done properly. L7's are no where near as tight of bass as the swr-1042. I sell both of these woofers and demo them every day. The L7's don't like sealed boxes and they have way too much excursion to be a good sound quality sub. If you can get the type r for around 100$ thats a steal IMO but thats probably because I'm in canada and I sell those woofers everyday for 289.99 ON SALE. They are 329$ woofers up here...
I've said this before but our demo car came third place in the world in sound quality using all alpine F1 speakers F1 status DVD head unit and audio processor and 3 type X 10" woofers. Alpine builds world class car stereo equipment and anyone that puts them down is either talking about type-s or they just don't know enough about alpine.

okay alpine looks good from what i've read. if i were to get an alpine type R 12", should i get a sealed or ported box?

also, would i type x 12" be overkill in the cb?

i honestly think you need to shop around go to a few audio shops and demo a few products. You have people tell you get this or that because of the price, but you want performance dont you? Just because you can get a sub for cheap doesnt mean thats what your gonna like so just demo a few subs combo's before you make a choice. Also Kicker L7's like larger ported box from 3-4 cubes to get really rocking even though im not a fan of them( i can speak because i have owned both the round and square solobarics).

P.S please get something you like because of the quality and not because of the price, im so tired of cb7's and when the trunk open all you see a bunch of bulls**t. we gotta start having more pride in our cars(cb7's) and stop B.S'n. i take it serious because im a audio shop business part owner and a cb7 lover and just see so many cb7's come threw and just for some reason take the easy way out time after time.

hope i dont offend anyone just being honest and needed to vent

yeah i'm definitely taking my TIME with the car. infinity kappa all around, and it's time for subs.
i've heard the type r 10" in a sealedbox in an early model maxima and it was wack! i've heard a 12" alpine type r in a sealed box in a bmw M3 and it was tight.

the alpine type x looks good, but i'll take your advice and check out some more audio shops and ask more guys/girls

2 channel amps are only usually stable at 4 ohms so be careful what subs you buy. If you buy a sub that runs at 2 ohms you could cook your new amp. That amp iss a good amp for almost all the subs we listed but not if you want to run 2. It's not enough power to properly push 2 of any of the subs we have been talking about. That amp would rock a type-r 10 or 12 very nicely without haveing to be maxed out. Like everyone says though, check eBay. Type R subs on there are cheaper that I can buy them at my staff discount. Thats the one and only thing I hate about alpine is how their product gets whored out on ebay so cheap. Good for someone like you, shitty for salesguy like me.

If you but one of the alpine type-R's make sure you get a SWR-1222D so it has the correct resistance for that amp. Dual 2 ohm voice coils wired in series gives you 4 ohms which is safe for that amp. whatever u buy make sure it can be wired to run 4 ohms.

750 rms at 4ohms ..... so u need to get a sub or subs that will run at 4ohms at the final load.

by the way I personally think (been doing audio for 15 years) the amp you chose and the box you chose is more important than the sub ....with the right box and the cleanest amount of power you can have a very good sounding system ... focus on the overall balance of the system more than trying to focus on the sub it self....

In Need of an engine, just a basic f22a...pm me if you have one willing to part with.
