i really had my heart set out for a kicker L7 12" subwoofer on a ported box. But my GM at work offered me his Alpine Type R 10" for 200$...... i heard it on his sealed box. it sounds wack...

what should i do?
1. go for the alpine type R and get a ported box...
2. reject my GM and go for my Kicker L7

Out of those two options, get the kicker.
If you can talk him down to $100 WITH the box, get the Type-R.

Eh, I'm not a fan of the square Kicker woofers. The old school shit is great, like the old XPL woofers, I had 2 12's and those things beat. I've got a Kicker Impulse 2252ix, old school power and I hooked it up to some L7 12's and they couldn't handle the power. They're just like the JL Audio woofers, good for sound quality, but, worthless for spl. In my opinion

It depends on the type of bass you are looking to get. Sealed boxes give a tighter, more responsive bass. Ported boxes give a deeper bass. With smaller woofers, you can go either ported or sealed, 8, 10, or 12" woofer. Whereas with a bigger woofer, 15 or an 18, sealed chambers are better. Again, in my opinion

Depends on the sub and space requirements. I think L7's are designed for ported boxes but I don't remember.

I don't usually say things when people place opinions out there but,

Placing kicker and JL in the same Sound Quality category is a disgrace to JL audio.

Kicker is built for SPL that is what they do. The L7 is their SPL sub it is not square so it can have better sound quality.

My two 10" L7's were my favorite subs!! i bought a typ r 15 and had a JL 500/1 and the L7's were louder and cleaner.Trust me spend the loot and get the L7's

12" kicker L7 is what's it's going to be. OEM kicker boxes are ported... i do want bass where i can still hear the mids and highs. sealed looks like majority recommendation here...
