Sub Woes

My buddy's got a set of "Dual" brand 12s in a plexi box.
8g wire.
Pioneer 760 Amp.

Everything's wired up correctly. Here's the kicker:

When he goes to turn the car on, everything works fine. Plays, sounds great, its awesome. However, it'll work for a day, maybe 2. Then it just stops working for like a week. It rarely cuts out while he's using it. For the most part, it wont come back on once he's turned the car off.

Also, when it does work, and he turns the volume all the way down, you can hear what almost sounds like a faint hearbeat, coming from the subs.


He said he's torn them apart several times, has checked online and even got ahold of somebody at Dual, and they couldnt help.

Any help or suggestions would greatly appreciated. TIA.

Connect the subs to a different source. My money is that they're fine.

The amp, on the other hand....

So you think it has something to do with the amp as opposed to the subs?

The reason he's concerned is cuz he got the subs off CL. Not sure about the amp. I think he either had it or bought it from a legit business.

I've had that before, and it was a bit more than faint. I forget what caused it. It came and went a couple times and hasn't happened since. I think it was just a bad connection. Don't remember, but I didn't replace anything. Sorry I can't help more.

Drivers are just variable electromagnets connected to an air piston. Not much to go wrong...and if they DO go wrong, it isn't intermittent.

Amps, though...heh.

First problem = Dual. =)
Memphis, Kicker, Alpine, Polk, MB Quart, Pioneer/Premier, JVC, Panisonic, Sony. alll good brands. and most have a cheap/lower line.

Anywho, I also had this problem one time when i got lazy and ran my power, remote, and RCAs all together, but it was more like static/whitenoise.

Duals FTL!..

although i did test a pair of 12's and sounded nice

and your problem is probally Ground cable, or battery cable going to amp

that's most likely ur problem..
any protection light on your amp?

I'll look into the light and wiring, but im pretty sure wiring is all good.

One of my friends had a problem where when he turned off his car the subs would get blaring loud and have a constant tone and he would have to disconnected the battery haha

I told him to change his ground and what do you know... everything worked fine
